It’s become something of a joke these days, how games are delayed so often. We often quip before an official date is revealed that it will probably get moved later anyway, which is why I’m refusing to get my hopes up about Horizon and Final Fantasy XV coming next year, although they might surprise me. Rainbow Six Siege is the latest game delay, but it’s not moving out of the holiday launch window.
Over on the UbiBlog, the team explained how important all the feedback they’ve received has been for making the game something truly worthwhile. They have watched how people play, and listened to their responses. As a result, there are some things that they want to fiddle with:
With that in mind, we’ve decided to push the release date of Rainbow Six Siege to December 1, 2015 for all regions. This wasn’t an easy decision, but based on the feedback we’ve received, and based on our own internal tests, we felt there are adjustments and improvements we can make, including improving the co-op experience across all game modes, weapon and gadget balancing, as well as menu and interface navigation. We’re taking a little more time to make these changes, and we think it’s the right call.
The closed beta is still taking place starting 24 September, which will allow for more time to test things like infrastructure and matchmaking. Plus, with all the extra testing and polishing, they’re hoping to ensure a higher quality experience when the game launches
I have pretty much no problem with any of this. It makes sense to me to delay a game rather than release something that doesn’t quite meet standards or expectations. First impressions really do matter in this industry, and most sites won’t or can’t change review scores after the fact. Definitely better for them to delay the launch and improve things like balancing and user interfaces, even if it means that players have to wait six weeks to play. At least now this frees up the October and November launch season a bit, letting people give Call of Duty a solid bunch of hours before they check out the pew pew action that Rainbow Six Siege can offer.

I don’t mind games being delayed. I mind games being delayed and then still being a buggy mess after release.

Still better than a day one patch! No! Wait! Who wants to bet we are still getting a day 1 patch?

The nice thing about Ubisoft (yes, I said nice) is that when you update a game, it actually shows you at which point it’s playable, and at which point it’s fully patched. Different to Steam where it just doesn’t work at all until you’ve installed all the latest patches.

Better yet is the PS4. It downloads in the background whilst you still playing a single player campaign. So far. Cannot vouch for ALL games
