Ghosts is probably the worst main Call of Duty game I’ve played – and I include the undercooked Call of Duty 3 in that, because as hokey as that game was, at least I could play it all the way through to its end.
Infinity Ward has to make up for that travesty with their newly announced Infinite Warfare, which from what we’ve seen so far, looks pretty good. I’m especially keen on that space combat pew pew stuff.
What I’m less keen on, especially if it takes queues from Ghosts, is the narrative of its single player. Thankfully, Infinity Ward have confirmed that Infinite Warfare isn’t connected to Ghosts in any way. Speaking in a livestream, narrative director Taylor Kurosaki (formerly of Naughty Dog) confirmed that Infinite Warfare is essentially a new sub-franchise for a series that already seems to have so many.
In related news, you’ve probably heard that you’ll need to buy Infinite Warfare if you want in on that remastered version of Modern Warfare, the first Call of Duty game to eschew historical conflict. It’s probably a clever marketing idea, but I’ve wondered if Activision and Infinity Ward aren’t perhaps worried that all of the focus on that older game is overshadowing their new one.
While that may be the case, it’s not something they’re worried about. Speaking to Forbes contributor Erik Kain Activision’s Rob Kostich said they’re just doing what fans want.
“It was important for us to be authentic to what fans want,” Kostich said. He’s not worried fans might be split, or spend more time playing Modern Warfare than the new game. “We’re thrilled they’re going to be playing a lot of Call of Duty this year,” he said.
“If you think about it, basically they scratch two different itches,” Infinity Ward studio head Dave Stohl aid. ”You’re gonna scratch the kind of more nostalgia Modern Warfare itch with the remaster, but all the kinda cool new stuff in Infinite Warfare is really exciting too. Obviously the Infinite Warfare experience is big with all the new bells and whistles, but it’ll be fun to go back to Modern Warfare multiplayer as well.”
From the mutterings I’ve seen on comments, forums and social media, it seems many are buying the game solely for Modern Warfare.

I love how DICE roasted Infinite Warfare saying it looks like they’re using 10 year old graphics… Now when battlefield 5 gets shown this week its Infinity’s turn to bite back… I’ve got my popcorn ready for this showdown.

I’ve rewatched the BF4 trailers after I read about that bit of nastiness. The BF 4 trailers do indeed look quite a bit better than that of COD:IW, which looks quite dull to be honest.
