Remember the Gears of War 3 leak we told you about not long ago, where a non-final development version of the game was leaked via torrents? Microsoft and Epic didn’t take news of the leak too lightly. Even though it would be playable only by those with debug 360’s and exceedingly rare JTAG modified consoles, law enforcement officials have been brought in to investigate the leak and find its source. It appears that may not be necessary.
According to famed PSP and PS3 hacker and software developer Mathieulh, the leak may have come from one of Microsoft’s own Australian partners, Codify.com ( who offers “software engineering and managed hosting.â€0, who had the build hosted, presumably for developers and journalists to access.
The curious thing is the site in question had no security whatsoever – not even a rudimentary password system, and was accessible via Google search – so anybody who entered the right search terms could have downloaded the thing. It’s gone now, but a Google cache query shows what was on offer. According to Codify.com, they just host a It looks, for all intents and purposes, like Microsoft leaked their own game through amazing incompetence.
Why, it almost seems like it was leaked on…purpose! Tinfoil hat, anyone?
