Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 should be getting fixed “soon”

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 has been a bit of a disappointment. That last sentence was a bit of an understatement. Robomodo’s latest skateboarding game was meant to take the series back to its roots, when I really should have gone back to the drawing board.

While the core gameplay is indeed classic Tony Hawk, the game looks bad and performs worse – with numerous issues keeping those who’ve paid for the game from enjoying it to its full. It’s been very nearly two months since the game was released, with nothing at all resembling a performance patch for the game.

Yes, it did have a day-one patch that was bigger than the game itself, but that was to put the multiplayer elements in to the game not to make it run any better. When the game was released, speculation suggested that it was rushed out, purely to capitalise on both gamer nostalgia – and the imminent end of Tony Hawk’s licencing contract with Activision.

“We are aware of the issues that players have experienced following the launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 and are working with the developer to address these so that we can continue to improve the gameplay experience for all of the Tony Hawk fans who have known and loved this franchise for more than 16 years,” Activision said when the game was released.

I can’t imagine they’ve been working very hard, because it’s been – as I said earlier – nearly two months. But there is hope. Developer Robomodo has said on Twitter that the patch for the game is on its way “soon.”

According to Robomodo, the patch will also include new levels and new characters in addition to the expected fixes. (Hat-tip to The Games Cabin)

The most awesome thing with THPS5 is that it made me boot up my PS2 again, I had almost forgot how much fun Project 8, THAW, THUG, and the other games in the series was! If they can bring THPS5 up to the level of THPS1, I’m happy! 🙂

So, you fix a game by placing more new things into it that will probably be broken as well?

There is only one way to “fix” this game, and it involves a blowtorch…. and maybe a lobotomy to help you… forget that it ever existed.
