By the official casting papers of various Hollywood scout agencies! Say hello to your 100% confirmed Sorceror Supreme, Benedict Cumbermatch!

After months of rumours, hearsay and speculation, Marvel has announced that Benedict Cumbermatch is your mystic protector for the upcoming November 2016 debut of Doctor Strange. I don’t think I need to write much about Cumbermatch here. He won audiences over in BBC’s Sherlock, put in some massive award-winning performances in films such as War Horse, The Imitation Game and 12 Years A Slave and has done his fair share of bigger budget Hollywood films as well.

It’s been a hell of a casting journey. Ever since Marvel announced the character would be getting a solo flick, just about every name in the industry has been attached to the character. From Jaoquin Phoenix, to Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto, Ewan McGregor, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Oscar Isaac.

Today - Season 62

I think it’s some damn good casting. The Marvel method as of late has been to cast unknowns in their films, actors who could be built up to be stars. But with Cumbermatch already an established actor, they’re going big for a character that is expected to carry a fair share of weight in the upcoming Phase 3 Marvel movies.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” Producer Kevin Feige said in a press release. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” Scott Derrickson directs the movie which introduces audiences to the mystic arts, as the story follows a gifted but arrogant neurosurgeon who discovers a new world of magic and the arcane after a car crash robs him of his surgical gifts.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!
