Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

So on Monday we brought you the news that a teaser trailer for the Evil Dead remake was played at this weekend past’s NYCC, much to the delight of the audience. Well, a very poor quality cam copy of that trailer has surfaced online. It’s getting taken down by the studio all over the place, so I have no idea how long this will be available, but if you can’t wait till an official release, then have a gander here.

Just a warning: Thanks to a couple of swear words and a whole lot of gore, this one is definitely NSFW.

Not only does Hugo Weaving not want to play super-Nazis with extreme sunburn ever again, he apparently also doesn’t care about morphing robots. Weaving, who provided the voice of the villainous Megatron in Michael Bay’s Transformers films, has revealed to Collider that he cared about the movies as much as I care about the preservation of fynbos. Spoiler: Not a lot.

“It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it.  They wanted me to do it.  In one way, I regret that bit.  I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless.  It was meaningless to me, honestly.  I don’t mean that in any nasty way.  I did it.  It was a two-hour voice job, while I was doing other things.  Of course, it’s a massive film that’s made masses of money.  I just happened to be the voice of one of the iconic villainous characters.  But, my link to that and to Michael Bay is so minimal.  I have never met him.  I was never on set.  I’ve seen his face on Skype.  I know nothing about him, really.  I just went in and did it.  I never read the script.  I just have my lines, and I don’t know what they mean.  That sounds absolutely pathetic!  I’ve never done anything like that, in my life.  It’s hard to say any more about it than that, really. “

Keeping with the Transformation, Spoiler TV is reporting that the fourth Bayhem filled robo-explodathon is busy casting for it’s lead, which is going to be a girl in high school. Also being cast is her boyfriend, a Texan racecar driver.

There’s a new poster for Tom Cruiser actioner Jack Reacher. While it’s still not the most memorable poster around, it’s definitely not as lazy as the previous one (which essentially was just a pic of Cruise’s face) and at least offers a hint of badassery with a dash of machismo. (Yes, I’ve been watching the Cooking Channel again.)

K-Stew (that’s Kristen Stewart to you unhip folk, and not that Kevin Spacey movie) speaks to Total Film in their latest issue about the mixture of elation and sadness at finally finishing up the Twilight saga soon:

“Both. Fleetingly sad and maybe then once or twice after. Like when you suddenly smell something that reminds you of being on set. But it’s not sad in between those moments, because I feel like no stone was left unturned.

“Everyone thinks it’s hard to say goodbye, but it’s harder to say goodbye to crews and casts that I’ve only spent five weeks with. This was four years. I’m ready to say goodbye. I’m perfectly fine.

“Once the story has been told, you feel like you’ve done all you can do. It’s pretty easy to walk away. It’s not like it’s going anywhere. This one’s mine, forever.”

Red Tails star Nate Parker has dropped out Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, due to his time commitments on the Liam Neeson thriller Non Stop. He’ll be replaced by James Ransone who has already collaborated with Lee on Inside Man and Red Hook Summer. Parker was supposed to play a doctor that works with Elizabeth Olsen’s character.

David Ayer’s (Training Day, End of Watch) screenplay for the Scarface remake – which is said to blend elements of both Howard Hawk’s 1932 version and Brian De Palma’s iconic 1983 version with Al Pacino – is going back for some spit and polish. Luckily the man doing the rewriting is Oscar nominated Donnie Brasco scribe Paul Attanasio.

Whether or not you’re in favour of the remake, you at least have to admire the level of talent being thrown at this project.

Here’s a new clip from upcoming video game inspired animated feature Wreck-It Ralph. This one focuses on the Bad Guy support group Bad-Anon.

Variety is reporting that along with the upcoming Oblivion and All You Need Is Kill, Tom Cruise is eyeing another science-fiction project titled Our Name is Adamwritten by Agent 13 scribe T.S. Nowlin… and that’s all we got. No other plot or cast details have been revealed so far, but I’ll be pretty upset if nobody in the film is actually called Adam.

Lionsgate have picked up Tyler “Madea” Perry’s next film (after he gets done catching a juicing Matthew Fox in Alex Cross, that is) Single Mom’s Club. He will be pulling his usual Renaissance Man act and will write, direct, produce and star in the drama about four single mothers who form a support group after an incident at their children’s schools.

You may have noticed that I said “four mothers” and that Perry is supposed to star. Oh Lurdee, are we in for some mo’ crossdressin’?

Elizabeth Banks has signed on to play the lead in Drillbit Taylor director Steven Brill’s new comedy Walk of Shame. Brill also provided the script which sees Banks as “an aspiring Los Angeles TV news anchor who loses an audition for her dream job, and goes out for an uncharacteristic night of partying that leads to waking in a stranger’s bed with no money, no car, no memory and a phone message from her agent that tells her she actually won the audition. She then must embark on a “walk of shame” across hostile neighborhoods on her quest to be on the air by 5 p.m.”

So essentially a female, solo Hangover without that annoying Zach Galifianakis? Yeah, I can dig it.

The long in development Janis Joplin biopic, Get it While You Can, with Amy Adams in the lead as the iconic 1960’s singer, is finally getting some traction. Precious and The Paperboy director Lee Daniels has now jumped on board for the psychedelic project and will probably tackle it after he wraps up filming on The Butler.

Speaking of dormant project coming back to life, Queen guitarist Brian May has offered up a bit of an update on the Freddie Mercury biopic after the band met recently for discussions and confirmed that Sacha Baron-Cohen is indeed still in the the running to play the legendary flamboyant rocker.

“Our main agenda was the Freddie film … which, I’m happy to tell you, is on course. The pieces are all falling into place, though we are now on a slightly later schedule — filming is now scheduled to start in the Spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie. The film should be ready for release early in 2014.”

I’m very disappointed that he didn’t say “Freddie movie film”.

In my very first Top List Thursday article I did here, I focused on the greatest movie fight scenes. They all earned their vaunted positions in cinematic history by displaying some of the most amazing martial arts choreography ever caught on film. And then you get these guys. Taken from the 1985 film Ninja Masters of Death, this fight scene will also go down in the annals of history but for not quite the same reasons.

Thanks to GeekTyrant spotting this, I can now bring you the GREATEST NINJA BATTLE EVER!

  1. I think we all need to do some charity work. In the form of digging a deep hole, throwing Tyler Perry into it, and then burying it with molten steel…

For all the shit he gets, I can’t help to sit down and watch every time a Tyler Perry movie is on. His comedy movies are shit but the drama one’s aren’t that bad. I think. I may be completely wrong.
