With a host of characters and races on display, one notable omission (even in cameo form) from Guardians of the Galaxy was Richard Ryder, aka the superhero Nova; especially given the prominence of the Nova Corps in the movie and how much Nova ties into the origins of this incarnation of the comic book team. However, we know that James Gunn and co were thinking of adding the human rocket, as a piece of concept art for the character is included in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy – The Art of the Movie” tie-in book. Feast your eyes below:
I liked the uniforms shown in the movie, they were practical while still easily recognisable, and the helmet continues that trend – it even has quite the Judge Dredd vibe to it as well. There was much speculation beforehand that this was the role Nathan Fillion was in line to play, but of course as it turns out, the role obviously wasn’t blue enough for him. There is a lot of speculation that Nova will get a more prominent role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 though, and we’ll just have to wait and see how that pans out!
And as an added bonus because cool is COOL, I’ve included an alternative costume design for toaster girl Nebula (who I wish got more screen time in Guardians).
This concept is from Andy Park who worked on the film and was sent out from his twitter account:
“Had the most fun working on #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy My fav was designing Nebula! @KarenGillan2 was badass! #marvel”

Adam Warlock was also a noticable omission!

Actually, he’s kinda sorta in the movie. In the Collector’s museum, you can see what looks to be his cocoon in the background, and James Gunn has already confirmed this.
