Is the 3DS (and Wii) getting a gamertag system?

One of the best things that Microsoft brought to this generation were achievements, gamerscore and the ubiquitous gamertag that we see on most gaming websites and forums.

In the beginning the Xbox 360 had the monopoly on these ideas until Sony caught up and introduced the Trophy system which may well be a better system but that isn’t an argument for today.

However the one company that has been blatantly lacking is Nintendo and now if the above screenshot is to be believed we can expect to see a DS/Wii gamercard announced at the same time as the Nintendo 3DS.

Personally I don’t think Nintendo are making a good move here as the more they compete directly against the PS3 and Xbox 360 the more it will become obvious that they are falling further and further behind.

I love my DS and Wii but if we are talking online gaming or statistical tracking then it is seriously far behind the times and attempting to catch up right now is a complete waste of time.

Well? They gotta start improving it somewhere, right? They can’t just take a shit about it.
3DS is a step in the right direction, I think.
