I’ve always respected Kevin Costner as an actor and director, ever since he starred in Tin Cup, and that other one where he won a bunch of Oscars, think it was called Dances With Wolves. Sure some of his projects may have sunk, literally, and others may have gotten lost in the post, but I am hopeful he won’t let me down this time. Starring alongside Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer (best supporting actress, The Help) and acting under the direction of Mike Binder (who Costner is no stranger to, he also starred in Binder-directed The Upside of Anger) Black or White looks set to be a touching drama that is sure to make you all warm inside.
After the death of his wife a widower (Costner) is forced into a custody battle with his granddaughter’s biological family as issues of race and the rights of parents are brought up. Usually this sort of things doesn’t interest me but the light humour in this trailer and chemistry between Costner and Spencer looks like it could be a winner. Have a watch and see what you think.
Black or White also stars Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Andre Holland (The Knick) and is in theatres from 30 January 2015.
