Kick Ass 2 is gathering some production steam, recruiting such actors as John Leguizamo, Morris Chestnut, Robert Emms and Donald Faison to the project, which examines how disastrously stupid and dangerous it is to be a real life caped crusader.
There’s some decent star power there, but it’s lacking a certain level of crazy talent, something that Nicolas Cage brought to the first film. And it looks like Jim Carrey might be picking up that slack, as Paramount is in talks to get him involved in the sequel.
Jim Carrey happens to be a massive fan of the first film, that was directed by Matthew Vaughn, even donning the infamous green costume worn by Kick Ass to do a musical duet with talk show host Conan O’Brien at one point.
Paramount and new director Jeff Wadlow are hoping to use that enthusiasm for the sequel though, as they want to cast Carrey as The Colonel, a former gangster who reforms, masks up and founds the team Justice Forever, a collection of like-minded individuals who put boots to asses and take part in other forms of voluntary community service.
Kick Ass joins the team, while his own personal nemesis, Red Mist, returns to spread some chaos. Deadline says that while the idea is still being thought of by Universal, and Carrey has yet to sign on officially, it could be some really inspired casting. And trust me, people who hate Carrey, will love this role. I won’t say why though.
Kick Ass 2 is currently scheduled for a June release next year, and will adapt the second comic book series and the Hit Girl spin-off.
