Some people like to have a little more of an idea of what a film is going to be about before they attempt to watch a film, even if the revealed trailers already look cool or if the film is based on a winning franchise – like Marvel for instance. And so, if you are one of those people that wants to see the official synopsis for a film, then today is your lucky day as two of Marvel’s upcoming big films Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 have had their official synopses’ revealed.
I would typically say SPOILER ALERT – but these things are deliberately vague as to not reveal too much about a film, while hopefully creating excitement by leaving an ambiguous word or two that could send fans into a frenzy in coming up with various theories (though, with Marvel following some comic story arcs quite closely, these shouldn’t be too great a surprise anyway).
So, let’s start off with Doctor Strange which has its official synopsis as:
Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.
And this reveals nothing at all – unless you are surprised by the fact that there will be some magic type stuff involved and alternate dimension existing in the universe. These are things we already knew would be in the film, but it’s nice how they still are leaving it out in the open as to how the film will interlink with the rest of the franchise, which is great.
And with regards to the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, we have the following official synopsis:
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
So, what this does reveal is that a big part of the film will be about the origin of Peter Quill’s father – which is also not too much of a surprise if you’ve watched the first movie and all of its end credits already.
So, we pretty much know now what we already knew before and we can get back to our lives knowing that all is okay with the world. We can still expect Marvel to be Marvel and hopefully continue to surprise and excite us when these next two films are released.
You can catch Doctor Strange later this year when it is released on November 4, however we will need to wait a little longer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is coming out on May 5, 2017. At least we know the latter film has wrapped up filming, so delays are unlikely.
Which of these two Marvel films are you most looking forward to?
