Say hello to your new Christian Grey for FIFTY SHADES OF GREY

2 min read

When it was announced two weeks ago that Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam would be stepping out of the suspiciously soiled loafers of Christian Grey, the whip-cracking literary character from Fifty Shades of Grey and star of many of your mom’s and her friends’ inappropriate dreams, there were many that breathed a sigh of relief as they felt that he wasn’t quite right for the role.

Well his replacement has now been found, so come on down and take off your shirt, Mr Jamie Dornan!.. Wait, who?

Yes, I now have that picture in my internet browser history, and so do you.

Anyway, Variety broke the news about the casting of model/musician/actor Dornan, whose name had popped up as a possibility when Hunnam… er… pulled out. Many fans were clamouring for popular A-list TV and movie actor choices to get the gig, but as producer Michael De Luca revealed to the LA Times, they intentionally went with a relatively unknown.

“I feel like everyone has an idea of what these characters look like and sound like, so to present the world with fresh faces — where no pre-conceived notions or baggage come with it — is best. “It’s like casting Superman or James Bond. A fresh face is appropriate.”

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that James Bond never included butt plugs in his list of gadgets he used on the job.

Dornan, may be recognisable to some as he played The Huntsman in a couple of episodes of ABC’s Once Upon A time, probably his most high profile gig. He apparently did a screen test with Dakota Johnson – who will be playing Anastasia Steele, the “inner goddess” heroine of the books – and they got along pretty well, which is what got him the job.

That and an obvious proclivity for standing around half naked.

So Fifty Shades of Grey fans, what do you think of the choice, or are you no longer even reading this and instead doing Google image searches of Jamie Dornan?

Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor Johnson, and is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014. Now if you’ll excuse me, I desperately need to go look at some girls.
