2013 seems to be an anniversary year of sorts. With Jurassic Park revealing it’s fossilized age, one other Steve Spielberg that was close to his heart is now also celebrating a twentieth birthday. Schindler’s List, which painted a very grim and realistic picture of how World War 2 treated the Jewish community is now two decades old, and to celebrate that film release, it’s headed to Blu-Ray in March.
The special edition Blu Ray will sport a digital remastering and the usual assortment of extras and commentaries. Set in the heart of Nazi Germany during World War 2, the film told the tale of Oskar Schindler who used his Nazi connections and wealth to save hundreds of Jews by employing them in his crockery factory. But with time against him, Schindler could only do so much, to the point where he was left bankrupt and destitute in his attempts to save as many people as possible.
The film was shot in black and white in Poland, and won several Oscars after release. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not sitting down for not only an emotional experience, but a pretty well shot film overall, with some fantastic actors on board that includes Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley.
“Schindler’s List is a rare masterpiece of filmmaking that remains as riveting and moving today as it was for moviegoers 20 years ago,” said Craig Kornblau, President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. “It stands as a powerful reminder of the heroism and humanity of those willing to stand up against intolerance.”
As for bonus features, the disc will include testomonies from Holocaust survivors that escaped death thanks to Schindler, as well as a USC Shoah Foundation featurette with Spielberg.
