Think about who you are in this new TV spot for AMERICAN HUSTLE

Any movie that has a trailer featuring Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times Bad Times” already has a leg up on the competition, if you ask me. The fact that that movie also happens to boast a cast possessing as much talent as their characters possess hair products and polyester clothing just seems unfair then, but that’s exactly what’s cooking in David O. Russel’s star studded American Hustle, the first TV spot of which has just been released.

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the States, “American Hustle” tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, “American Hustle” defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

Despite the overwhelming fugue of hairspray, I think I can still smell some award nominations coming from this. Folks in attendance at AFM were recently treated to the film’s opening 6 minutes, and based on reports on those few minutes alone, the film is definitely living up to its fun, cool promise.

American Hustle hits international cinemas on December 13, 2013, but alas we’ll have to quite a while before being graced with Bradley Cooper’s perm as it only hits our shores on February 14, 2014.
