Chromie Heroes of the Storm feature image

Chromie, the teeny tiny gnome (who’s actually a big ol’ bronze dragon tasked with defending time), has been out and about in the Heroes of the Storm Public Test Realm for the past week or so. Now though, she’s ready to make her official debut in the Nexus.

At first glance, Chromie is a charismatic but somewhat forgetful gnome, constantly distracted and intrigued by the world around her. But don’t let her appearance fool you. This seemingly precocious gnome’s true form is that of Chronormu, a powerful Bronze Dragon capable of bending time to its will, eternally tasked with maintaining the balance of infinite timelines by any means necessary.

Sensing a disturbance of the greatest proportion in a brand new world, Chromie now makes her first foray into the Nexus… or is it her second foray? Or third? There’s really no telling. It’s so hard to keep track!

So what tricks does this spellcaster have up her short sleeves? Here’s an overview of what exactly she can do

Basic Abilities

Timewalker (trait)

You’ve traveled to the future, and as such, will learn your Talents 1 level earlier than your teammates!

Sand Blast (Q)

After 1 second, fire a missile that deals 855 (406 + 4% per level) damage to the first enemy Hero hit.

Dragon’s Breath (W)

Fire a blast into the air that lands after 1.5 seconds, dealing 965 (458 + 4% per level) damage to enemies in an area. Enemies cannot see where the blast will land.

Time Trap (E)

Place a Time Trap that arms and Stealths after 2 seconds. The first enemy Hero to touch it will be put into Stasis for 2 seconds. Only 1 trap can exist at once.

Heroic Abilities

Slowing Sands (R)

Place a sand vortex that greatly slows enemies inside it. The longer it is active the more it slows, up to 50% after 5 seconds.

Temporal Loop (R)

Choose an enemy Hero. After 3 seconds, they will teleport back to the location where you cast Temporal Loop on them.

Chromie

What I find really interesting in Chromie’s kit is her Timewalker talent. With it, she can learn talents 1 level earlier than everyone else. It may not seem like much, but I think at levels 10 and 20 in particular (or 9 and 10 in her case), it can make a world of difference. Having that ultimate just that little bit sooner is a huge advantage!

Other than that cool trick, she comes packed with two nukes that can be cast from afar. She also has sneaky, invisible disable that is sure to catch out enemies who aren’t paying attention.

Her ultimate abilities don’t do any damage whatsoever, but are perfect utilities for disrupting the enemy team. Slowing Sands in particular, looks like the heroic ability I’ll be picking most. Though, Temporal Loop looks good too to be perfectly honest.

To offset all this strong magic at her disposal, Chromie, like many other mages, is very weak in the health department. Still, in the hands of smart players, she will stay out of harms way, and cause all sorts of havoc from a safe distance.

I can’t wait to play her myself! What about you? Will you be coughing up gold (or cash) for Chromie?
