Activision Comment On Call Of Duty Brands' Return – And I Don't Believe Them

2 min read

So after the reveal posted earlier that the Call of Duty name would be returning to the Modern Warfare 2 title, Activision have explained why it’s back.

A spokesperson from Activision had the following to say:

“We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series.”

“Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title’s package.”

Excuse me, you have got to be kidding, right? I know the real reason that it’s back.

First of all, could this have been said by the very same spokesperson who told that:

“Modern Warfare has taken on such a life of its own, it has become our focus now”

The real reason it’s back goes way back to something we posted up a while back. We posted that market research had found that the game was losing a lot of awareness with the public when the Call of Duty name was not mentioned.

This obviously means a couple of tons worth of money will go down the toilet if Activision had left out the COD brand. It’s straightforward and it makes sense so why not just friggin’ say it instead of spewing out contradictory tripe about true sequels and all that jazz.

You sell games to make money, you are a business, we get it. Just do us a favour and stop pretending like it was for any other reason.
