Battlefield 4 already has a “multiplayer update” patch

Battlefield 4 is out in the US today, and the rest of the world on Friday – and if you plan on playing multiplayer (and you probably do), then you best download the game’s day one patch.

A standalone sort of patch, the  "Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Update 1" is available to download now from the Xbox Marketplace. It’s only about 120mb, so won’t take you forever – but DICE suggests you download it post-haste.

"This Battlefield 4 update contains improvements to the multiplayer portions of the game," DICE says. "We strongly advise you download it."

Odd; I’ve never seen a title update or patch on the marketplace, and this seems to be optional, so it cant fundamentally change the multiplayer in any really meaningful way.

On the subject; the game’s first DLC,  China Rising, will be available to Premium subscribers on December 3 – and to those who pre-ordered the game roughly two weeks later.

I have to say; I hate timed and paid-for DLC maps; there’s no quicker way to fragment a player base than to ensure that not everybody has the same maps to play on.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
