Diablo 3 will receive an expansion, but there’s no timeline set just yet. During an earnings call for the third quarter of Activision Blizzard’s current fiscal year, Mike Morhaime, Blizzard CEO said that an expansion is being planned and that there’s no time frame as to when it might be released.

Morhaime commented that the quality of the expansion (and I’d expect nothing less from Activision Blizzard) and its gameplay will take top priority, and that both will be a “big factor” in driving the actual schedule of the release. Let’s hope that it doesn’t take another decade to develop eh. Okay, okay just kidding. But seriously.

Activision Blizzard also mentioned in the call that more than 10 million copies of Diablo 3 have been sold to date, expanding the number of players revealed in August. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick referred to “Blizzard’s record-shattering Diablo III sales” as one of the biggest drivers for earnings so far this year. Activision noted that Diablo 3 is “the #1 bestselling game in dollars and units on the PC in the U.S. and Europe” since its release.
