Doom 4 announced

Shortly after the birthday of Wolfenstein 3D, it has been made known to the world that id Software is beginning work on their fourth installment of the Doom Franchise.

In an unusual fashion, the news came to light when id Software made it known that they were looking to hire staff to work on the game. The fact that Quake 4 and Doom 3 both made it to consoles means that we can only assume that the game will be coming to not only the PC, but the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

Doom 3 ,which was a re-imagining of the original games took on a horror theme, which begs the question of whether or not id Software is going to have the same approach with Doom 4. I personally never saw the original Doom games as horror games, but more as Action Shooters, so it will be interesting to see if they change the feel of their next game to that of a more action oriented shooter, or if they are going to try and frighten the pants off of us once again.

Since the game hasn’t been officially announced with a press release of any kind, no expected release dates have been made available. With id Software working on both Rage as well as Doom 4, it might still be a very long time until this game sees the light of day. We will be waiting in anticipation to see what sort of technical wizardry John Carmack will be conjuring up with the power of the next-gen consoles as well as all the new advancements in PC technology.

We have already seen early videos of what Rage is looking like, but it will be interesting to see how they implement the new engine into their age old classic franchise.
