When Operation Flashpoint came out a couple of years ago, it stayed pretty low on many peoples radars and in the end, not many gamers even knew that it existed.
The truth in my opinion, is that it was a real big shame, because it was one of those titles that was so ahead of it’s time that I think that not many people even realised what it was accomplishing. It was the first game that I ever played that had a map so large that it took 5 – 10 minutes to drive a jeep across, and was also my first ever experience of playing a game where I was running around a huge area on foot, and then had the chance to hop into a helicopter and suddenly see everything from up in the sky.
Not only was it pulling off large scale, but just the way that missions could change midway depending on your decisions or abilities, without you even knowing, and then sitting gobsmacked when you see someone else playing the same mission and realising that they are in a completely different scenario to you and that they are seamlessly integrating into each other.
Operation Flashpoint 2 is looking to put all of it’s emphasis on realism, and if done correctly, could blow us away. At the same time, if they blow it, it could be a boring experience instead. I am definitely holding thumbs that this title shines.

i also loved this game when it came out.
i just hope codemasters do it justice, seeing as this title is only a sequel in name. bohemia made the proper sequel (armed assault), but again, it’s not well known.
its looking really good though

I really hope that they don’t over-sim the game to the point that it’s actually boring. The multiplayer could be absolutely great, especially the 4 player co-op

but then again, i hope they don’t go the opposite route of dumbing it down too much. we don’t need another bf:bc.
codemasters do have a good track record of finding balance between the two… except grid imo

Well they are really pushing on the idea that they want hyper-realism in this game, so I don’t see them dumbing it down. I think that they are going for the hardcore approach, that’s why I said that I hope it isn’t tooooooo hardcore that only a couple of enthusiasts will like it.
