Grow a beard in Bloodborne

Some people love to get lost in character creation. I’m not one of them – I usually just select a prebuilt design and then make some minor modifications to match how I want to look in the game. Still, it’s nice to have a wide range of options about body type, markings and facial hair.

In another video out of IGN’s First program, here we can see the vast array of customization options for your Bloodborne character.

While this video shows them making a strange version of Harry Potter characters (that is what they were going for, right), it’s great to see options for beards, tattoos and other markings. There are also sliders for a bunch of the attributes, so you’re not just dealing with a variety of presets – you can even change stomachs or shoulder widths.

The last video they showed gave some hints that perhaps weight won’t matter this time around, and the bonfire system appears to have been abandoned for some other portal mechanism. While this may or may not mean a return to the Demon’s Souls style of world design, we’re certainly getting clues that this game will not be as similar to the Dark Souls games as people may have thought.

The more I see of the game, the more impressive it looks. Plus the voice acting is sufficiently creeping me out. I’m glad to see that it’s not just a Dark Souls with guns game; it seems to be taking a unique approach that will kill everyone who gives it a whirl. Now let’s just hope it delivers.
