Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith announced that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has become the first game to exceed $1 billion in sales. An impressive feat for any video game, but especially so considering it was developer Neversoft’s first stab at the franchise.
Speaking at a CES keynote Griffith address gaming as a whole, saying that “…(games) are poised to eclipse all other forms of entertainment in the decade ahead.” He may be on to something; most other entertainment industries, including film and music have seen a steady decline in recent years, whereas video game sales have increased year on year. I know I spent far, far more on video games last year than…pretty much anything. Whether this is down to their allure or just their ever-increasing cost, I’m not sure. What I do know, is that my wallet hurts.
