Is Criterion working on a new Need For Speed?

Say what you like about EA and their annual release of the Need For Speed franchise, but at least they have the good sense to inject some variety into their racing cash-cow. While purists may enjoy NFS Shift more, those of us looking for a more arcadey experience will be lining up on Friday for NFS: The Run.

Criterion, who reinvigorated the Hot Pursuit title in NFS last year, seem to be busy with a sequel to that right now, if the job listings are anything to go by.

According to a job listing, Criterion is “looking for talented Cinematic Artists to work on the world’s number one, multi award winning, arcade racing franchise.” And as much as I love racing games such as Burnout, PGR, Forza and GT, its safe to say that that must be in the NFS range, due to the ties that the studio has with EA.

The job listing requires applicants must be able to help create a game which will allow players to expect “entertaining, compelling in-game cinematic action sequences” from the racer, as well as “intense car action sequences, terrifying jumps, insane crashes and epic car chases”.

Sounds like Criterion is keeping the winning formula intact for another Hot Pursuit game.
