Killzone: Shadow Fall story explanation

2 min read

We first saw the new Killzone title showcased at the PlayStation 4 reveal and I couldn’t believe how absolutely incredible it all looked. I spoke about that at length here but now we have another video courtesy of VG247 giving us more of an insight into the story.

Apparently in this story the Hellghast and ISA are inhabiting the same planet –  split by a huge wall down the middle, so like Germany in the 80’s except this time the idea of good guys and bad guys isn’t as cut and dry.

The game is set 30 years after the ending of Killzone 3 which isn’t being taken well as the end of Killzone 3 left us with many questions that needed answering. My guess is that we start off 30 years ahead and then through the power of video games we play through the actual back story.

What do you think, are Guerrilla just going to ignore all the questions we were left with after Killzone 3 or will they all be answered?

Those glowing eyes. Perfect for sniping.

  • Bummer there wasn’t more pre-rendered footage to add to the trailer 🙁

Can I just say again how absolutly phenominal that game looks…..

So basically Israel vs Palestine then? And the Israelis are the ‘good’ guys?

Who cares about story when you have pretty graphics right?

Said like a sir! This is 2013 after all. Lots of stories have already been told, why do we need MOAR? No, I think better looks if you ask me!

For those questioning the validity of the video we’ve seen thus far, I’d suggest you look a little more into how having appropriate amounts of RAM, can change game performance. This is why folks like myself ranted about the hardware specs of the PS3 and 360, in the beginning. Because, view distance like this could have been possible, had they simply thrown a tad more resources into both machines.

Certainly the level of detail wouldn’t have been possible, given their GPU’s were based off of DX9 cards. But, the view distance could’ve been achieved given how developers can tailor the resources more efficiently in consoles.

As far as the story goes, we can sit here and play the guessing game from now until November+ when the game releases, but I’d rather spend my time doing other things. We’ll learn more as we get closer to the launch window, and…when reviewers actually play the game. No point in getting our collective panties in a bunch over something we won’t know until the game launches.

And yes, story does trump graphics, but with a new generation, boasting this amount of power increase, you should expect the bar to rise greatly from the get-go. Remember, the Frostbite 2 engine can achieve LOW settings, on the current crop of consoles.
