Kinect Star Wars, the game that elicited squeals of nerdly delight – and then broke out spirits with the realisation that it was a completely on rails experience – has a tentative release date.
It looks like there might be lots of time the game to de-rail – because it’s only coming out towards the end of next year. Speaking to the BBC’s Newsbeat, perpetually sunglassed Kinect creative lead Kudo Tsunoda revealed the tentative date for the controller-free motion-controlled Star Wars experience.
“We have a Kinect Star Wars game coming out for next holiday [Christmas 2011],†he said.“I think you could just easily imagine being a Jedi and using Kinect to make you feel you’re part of a Star Wars experience, building yourself up into a Jedi.“I’ve seen a bunch of the game and it’s super compelling.†Force Waggle – coming to you in 2011.
I was left pretty unconvinced by the preview videos at E3; the lightsaber action was cool – but all movement was on rails, with the Jedi using “the force†to move towards the each successive battle. they have a lot of time to sort that out – and try come up with a way for Kinect players to Move in 3D space.
Speaking of, I can’t help but feel that Playstation move would be a better fit for lightsaber-based Star Wars game.
