Mass Effect 2 on PS3 corrupting saves

Uh oh… There appears to be a massive problem on the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 and if you are currently playing it then I strongly recommend reading this and taking preventative measures.

According to increasing reports the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 is susceptible to crashing and corrupting your saved game. Now this isn’t entirely new for RPG’s and any good RPG player knows they need multiple saves throughout the game just in case something goes wrong.

But that’s not going to help.

Simply because it appears like Bioware are keeping all your saved games in a single file so that as soon as one corrupts the rest of them become corrupted as well.

Meaning you need to start right from the beginning all over again and when a game is as substantial as Mass Effect 2 that’s a disaster.

I have asked Bioware to comment on when you can expect a patch for this issue and if/when we get a response I will update this post but until then it is recommended that you routinely copy your saved game data over to an external drive or USB stick just in case it happens to you.

It’s a real inconvenience but rather that than have your entire game ruined by a glitch or power failure.
