New trailer and character posters for THE GREAT GATSBY

2 min read

I’ll admit it. Every single time I do a story about Baz Lurhmann’s adaptation of the famed F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, there’s a part of me that’s severely disappointed at the complete lack of a full house steak gatsby on display.

Luckily though, if artery clogging Cape Town junk food is not your thing, the film still has plenty of tasty visuals and delicious performances to sink your teeth into, as can be seen in this new full trailer and collection of 6 character posters.

“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles

Lurhmann has always an amazing visual flair, and that’s certainly on display here in full force, along with what appears to be just the latest in a recent string of magnetic, scenery destroying performances by Leonardo DiCaprio. The man just cannot seem to do wrong lately.

I’m still not entirely sold on Tobey Maguire, but the rest of the cast is so strong – and they all seem to be delivering the goods – that that’s a minor blip on the radar.  And while Elizabeth Debicki might be a complete unknown at the moment, and doesn’t even feature too much in this trailer, despite getting her own poster, I’ve seen a few sources claim that this is going to be a star making vehicle for her.

Speaking of posters…

Is it just me or is Joel Edgerton a dead ringer for a young Harvey Keitel with that pencil thin porn-stache?

Don’t even need to see the trailer – these days I’ll give anything Leo makes a look.
