Over 50% of all piracy comes from 5 nations (not us)

The ESA has released its list of the problem countries when it comes to piracy and thankfully we are not on it, which could be simply because we have a smaller gaming population than any of the others; but either way we’re not on it.

There are some usual suspects such as Brazil and China, both massive countries with low average incomes which just breeds piracy, but the others really don’t have that excuse.

After crunching the numbers the ESA has revealed that 54% of the worlds piracy can be directly tracked back to the following 5 countries

  • China
  • Brazil
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • France

The bottom 3 all being accepted as first world countries with an average income that can easily afford to pay for their entertainment, this points to a problem in their government and judicial structures who aren’t satisfactorily policing the rights of the copyright holders.

Which isn’t a surprise for a place like Italy who’s PM has now been charged with yet another crime but I would have expected better from France and Spain.
