  1. $499 is too much for the PS5 Standard, but the $399 for the PS5 Digital is fantastic, might pick that up in a year or two as a secondary console! Nice Show!

I don’t think $499 is too much for the standard. I’m just worried about how much that $499 price will translate in rands. Coz local retailers play hard capitalist games.

That’s exactly the same price as the more powerful XSX, so the PS5 Standard Edition is “avoid at all cost” for me. The PS5 Digital will be a good option in a year or two maybe when on sale!

It’s barely more powerful on paper, 95% of the parts are identical

We just don’t know really, Sony starting to sell their consoles without a tech break down even. We haven’t even seen the SOC, know nothing about HW based RDNA2 features, their version of Velocity Architecture etc. The almost 3TFlop gap on paper could be much higher theoretically.

Precisely, so why value the PS5 lower simply because it slightly less powerful on paper?

Funny you should say that. I am waiting to see some proper game play from the Series X. I am still deciding which way to go, especially at this price point. At least Sony has shown plenty of game play.

MS always try to push the ”more powerful” angle but in the end it’s negligible either way and it boils down to the games.. of which Sony usually has better exclusives.

If you’re that concerned bout hardware specs then perhaps a console isn’t what you should be wasting money on tbh.

Agree with the PS exclusives, that’s why, this gen I will try to get the PS5 Digital 1 – 2 years down the line on special to play those 4 or 5 exclusive bangers! But for the other 99% of the games, I want the best possible versions of those so I will get them on the XSX.(I started gaming on PC and even had a proper gaming PC at one time but just prefer console these days tbh)

TBF the tech you get on one of these boxes is pretty high end.

That’s not bad for the digital edition. Might just be able to afford a larger TV as well.

Man these prices are way better than the 600 some projected. And the exclusives? Bellisimo! Not a fan boy (mainly PC gamer) but I sincerely feel bad for Xbox backers right now. Will definitely be picking up my PS5 come November 12.

The exclusives are 100% why I am switching! Missed out on so much due to being on XBone 🙁

Reason for me to not go digital: Raru sometimes have to dump special/collectors editions that didn’t sell, and then you get great games at bargain prices! Got Soul Calibur with the statue as an example for less that what the normal edition normally sold for. Also DoW 3 (PC game) with the Hammer and gave the game to a friend.

Yeah, but the online stores have sales ALL the time, and you often get HUGE discounts in games.
      The secret ingredient is patience…

Edit: to clarify, I’m referring to the PS Store, not online stores like Raru and Takealot.

Oh yeah, aware of that. Got Witcher 3 for cheap, as well as UFC and a few others. I can still take advantage of that, but for me the CE with statues and stuff become less useful if you can’t use the disk. And I do like my dust gathering geek stuffs!

Locally PS4 always sold higher than Xbox. Hopefully that is not a trend that continues

I was rather impressed by Harry Potter. It looked really good visually. Wow. If that is what next gen looks like across the board, I`m looking forward to it. Also, Demon Souls was pretty insane. I just wish MS would get their ducks in a row so I could make an informed decision. For all their talk of specs, I have yet to see any gameplay that is definitive from their camp and I am on the fence.
