PSP biggest disappointment of the year, Halo: Reach biggest surprise (Gamestop)

Eurogamer has been chatting to the Senior Vice President of merchandising and marketing for Gamestop, Bob McKenzie about the year that has been.

According to Bob, the biggest disappointment this year has been the PSP offerings, or more likely the lack of offerings for the PSP. In June this year Sony went on stage at E3 and promised that we will be getting 70 new PSP titles by the end of the year…

Well unless we are about to get a whole avalanche of titles that goal is never going to be met and as such has been listed as the biggest disappointment for 2010 by McKenzie.

On the other hand Halo: Reach was apparently the biggest surprise which I was surprised about. But apparently the pre-orders and excitement wasn’t really that high before the game was released and Gamestop were not expecting it to reach the numbers it did.

I am actually considering picking up a PSP this Christmas to download Final Fantasy VII and VIII on PSN.I wouldn’t mind playing both games on the Go!

The PSPGo? Dude seriously? You really don’t make any sense. You love Xbox 360 (sigh), xbox live (sweet heavens) and now you want a PSPGo (By Sweet Thor’s left testicle…why?)?

    Are you a sado-masochist? :pouty:

But you can play PSOne games on the PS3… (and not only the ones you download from PSN but your ancient PSOne CDs). By the way, I saw a box of old PSOne games, being sold for R15 a pop at a Cash Crusaders in Milnerton.

I don’t understand why the PSP could do quite this badly. Yeah, the UMD drive is painfully slow, but overall it’s a great little system. But it’s the only system to go up against Nintendo and make a big dent. There are still millions of them out there.

    Oh well….

But PSP Go? Don’t waste your money. Games on UMD allow you to have more on your memory stick. Standard PSP has a much bigger screen and the whole thing costs less. 🙂

Yeah, I love my little PSP. It’s a nifty little device, because you can play mp3s, movies, read comics and play games on it.

As for the PSP Go.. wwwaaasstteeeee!!!

The PSN store is almost identical, but will only show you PSP content. Here’s the areas it differs:

    – You can only have it attached to one PSN account. You don’t have users like you do on PS3.
    – You’re not logged in whenever you’re using the system, probably because that uses up more battery power.
    – You don’t have your friends list available on it, which I find a disappointment.

But you CAN do things like remote play, which allows you to control your PS3 from anywhere, play videos and music, and even some games like Peggle and PixelJunk Shooter. Most movies and video can be transferred to the PSP, too.

Tekken huh? I wouldn’t mind having that on the go… Gotta finish Lunar, first. ^_^

The original MGS was released about 2 years ago buddy. Its actually been discounted from its original R95 price a while back also. If you get PSN Plus you can get it for R45.

Personally i love my PSP. I spent about 80 hours playing the brilliant Valkyria Chronicles 2 and another 60 hours playing the best game on PSP MGS Peace Walker this year. GTA Chinatown wars was also fantastic and ive got GOW: Ghost of Sparta ready to go after i finish putting some time into Black Ops. Next years also looking pretty good with Valkyria Chronicles 3, The 3rd Birthday and FFXIII Agito!

I cant wait for PSP2 and the 3DS next year. Portable gaming has definitely grown on me quite a bit

Let’s pay more for a smaller screen, no UMD, and cramped controls. Meh. 🙂

Awesome man, that’s an incredible deal. If you’re into comics, you can also download them from the PSN store (there are a couple free ones)

@Bobby Kotick dude that comic book store is pathetic, dont give him false hope, he should just get custom firmware get a comic book app, that is actually awesome and gets good comics ie naruto, or one piece, or even justice league stuff, marvel stuff

@Acid the psp is wifi reliant, but you dont need a psp to download stuff
get this program called Media Go, and you can Access the PSN store on your PC then just plug in your psp via usb to transfer your downloads

The software is called Media Go just google it, its official as well!
    there is no better way!

As far as i know you said you had a PS3 right??? Well if you do then just buy the stuff off PSN on your PS3. Install it to your PS3 HDD where you can keep it and transfer it over to your PSP via USB cable anytime you want. I use this method because storage on PSP is limited and even the PS1 games like MGS, FFVII, FFVIII,FFIX and others range between 1 to 2 GB. So basically if you run out of space on your PSP you can delete without the need to download off PSN again. This is helpfull if you want to play again months later since youll have it saved on your PS3 HDD.

Also rather purchase a PSP3000 over a PSPGo because not all games are available to download off PSN and some youll need to buy at a retail store on UMD. Stupid by Sony i know but what can you do.

Just basically confirming that all these methods are correct. ^_^

Media Go is Sony’s official software to put stuff on the PSP very easily from your PC. It even has the PS store available, and all you need is a standard USB to mini USB, which I think comes with it.

And yeah, downloading to your PS3 is easy. Then you just hit X on the thing, it’ll tell you to transfer it to your PSP, which just hooks up with the same cable your controller charges with. PS1 games are a lot harder to trasfer. You have to hit triangle and tell it to copy. *phew* A real challenge. ^_~ lol sorry, just sarcasm there.

And then, you can use it with wifi and download directly to the PSP.
