At a backers-only event at PAX last week, Roberts Space Industries Chris Roberts showed off the game’s dogfighting module, to the glee of the crowd in attendance. And now, thanks to the magic of the internet you get to watch Star citizen’s dogfighting in action. Be warned: It’s very, very buggy.
When it works, it’s rather pretty, but with the game still very much in alpha there’s a lot going wrong. you’ll see interface glitches, AI going bad, targeting issue and rather broken physics all of which culminates in the rather awkward ending of this video. You’d imagine with hat $42 million in the bank they’d have better Q&A.
The Dogfighting Module will feature five game modes, such as Battle Royale and Capture the Shore and should be available to backers at the end f this month. It was meant to be available in December, but has been delayed..for pretty obvious reasons. some backers, are, rightfully, starting to become a little upset.
"As I write this, the Star Citizen team is all around me hard at work on the dogfighting module," Roberts wrote in February about PAX "… The team is scurrying to take care of thousands upon thousands of necessary details: variable damage states, HUD detailing, weapons cameras, engine sounds and countless other things that go into creating an immersive space combat experience. At this point, we can now regularly dogfight here in the office."
If you have half an hour to spare, you can watch the entire panel here.
