For those who don’t know, ‘Mew-Genics’ is an upcoming Team Meat game where you breed (hoard) cats and look after them in a similar fashion to a Sims, or Tamagotchi game. Sound interesting? Then read on!
Edmund Mcmillen of Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac fame has announced via the Mew-Genics blog that their upcoming game ‘Mew-Genics’ will have hoardable items with their own specific properties and effects, purchasable via an in game store called “hoarders R us”. Mcmillen likens it to Animal Crossing, where you collect items for your house.
“Most know this design from Animal Crossing, you collect items to fill your house, it’s basically the core of what Animal Crossing is,” McMillen wrote. “But with Mew-Genics, we wanted to make this collecting/hoarding aspect more meaningful, we wanted it to go beyond basic hoarding for hoardings sake and into something that impacted gameplay.”
Some of the given examples were microwaves to further the chance of genetic mutations in your cats, or clocks that control the flow of time. Mcmillen stated that every item in Mew Genics will have an appreciable effect in-game. There are currently 650 finished pieces of furniture in Mew-Genics, the final game will have over 750, bringing the total number of items to 1500.
This is a radically different game from what we’re used to with Team Meat, but the more I hear about it, the more I’m convinced that it’ll be insanely addictive. Mew-Genics will be released in 2014.
