The Design & Technology of Max Payne 3 – Video #3

1 min read

Max Payne has the unenviable job of competing with Diablo III, which has finally got a nailed-down release date. I’m…I’m not one for carpal tunnel syndrome, so I know which one I’ll be picking up that week. Here’s a new trailer explaining just why I’m so excited to slow down time and shoot people in the face again.

This latest trailer focuses on the engine’s ability to generate graphic novel-styled exposition dynamically – and though I can’t say I’m a fan of the cheesy voice-over that punctuates the video – y’know, the one that’s used in movie “making of” videos –  the action is pretty incredible. Gavin seems to have been impressed by it during his time with the game. I may have doubted Rockstar Vancouver’s handling of Remedy’s classic series – but it looks like I can start putting those doubts to rest.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
