Well Ensemble Studios really can’t stay out of the news at the moment, besides all the controversy surrounding Microsofts decision to close the studio, Gamasutra has uncovered a surprising project the Halo Wars developer was working on between 2006 and 2007: a MMO game set in the halo universe. The game was however cancelled but as you can see they also have proof in the form of screen shots, a user interface mock up and some concept art.

It seems to not be noted anywere what exactly caused the project to be canceled, and whether it had anything to do with Ensemble’s recent closure. To be clear, work on this Halo MMO apparently ended sometime in 2007, long before Microsoft announced they’d be shutting Ensemble Studios down earlier this month.

This could however be sufficient proof that Microsoft is interested in a Halo MMO, as for whether this idea has been moved to another studio, no one knows, but it would be interesting to see if it ever materializes.

Wow. A Halo MMO. That. That’s just. Err. I have no words to describe how stupid that idea is! Haha ok well I only have a Xbox360 but I’ve never liked HALO, so maybe thats why it seems uninteresting to me, but a MMO based of a shooter? Meh…

well we have yet to see a good MMO (FF11 doesnt count!) on the consoles. It makes sense that MS would try and convert their “strongest” IP to an MMO.
