Homefront
Developer: Kaos Studios / Digital Extremes
Publisher: THQ
Available: 18 March
kalahari.net price: from R333.86 (delivered on 18 March)

Set in the year 2027 during a Korean attack on American home soil, this latest FPS from publisher THQ is sure to appeal to military shooter fans. The game features a single-player campaign (penned by the co-writer of Apocalypse Now and Red Dawn) as well as competitive online multiplayer that harks back to Kaos Studios’ Frontlines: Fuel of War.

Why should you care about this game? Well, for a kickoff it’s a new IP and that in itself is exciting in this era of sequel-sausage-machine releases. It’s also THQ’s flagship release for the year and they’ve been throwing some serious advertising behind the game. Granted, some of the advertising hasn’t been that intelligent, but it’s done the job of promoting that game, that’s for sure!

Crysis 2
Developer: Crytek
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Available: 25 March
kalahari.net price: from R304.16 (delivered 25 March)

It’s the first time that console gamers will get a taste of what it’s like to don a Nanosuit to kick ass and take names in the multiplatform release of Crytek’s mega franchise. In Crysis 2 you’ll trade island jungles for the concrete jungle as the alien invasion hits New York City. Armed with the new Nanosuit 2 and a truckload of fire power, get ready to unleash holy hell on otherworldly invaders.

Built off Crytek’s new CryEngine 3, the game looks stunning on PC and both consoles. On top of the single-player campaign the game will have an extensive multiplayer aspect to extend your game time.

SingStar Afrikaanse Treffers
Developer: London Studios
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
Available: 30 March
kalahari.net price: from R249.95 (delivered on 30 March)

Come on, you didn’t expect us not to include this – I mean, we’re even getting a localised PS3 Console Bundle edition for this game! It’s a SingStar game that has been lovingly put together just for us South African gamers. Clearly, somebody at Sony loves SA, or somebody at Sony has an awesome sense of humour. Either way this is pure win for all of us.

Nothing beats drunken SingStar sessions – nothing except drunken Afrikaans SingStar sessions. Now we’ll all get to warble to the dulcet tones of legendry artists like Kurt Darren. Personally, I cannot wait to belt out Rooi Rok Bokkie.

There’ll be 30 original tracks on the disk, with more available for download via the PlayStation Network. Break out the klippies and cola mense.
