I think I have become desensitized to the difficulty of Souls games. I can’t play them because I value my TV and don’t think it would be worthwhile for me to throw a controller through it, but I have watched my hairier half play it enough to know that it’s totally doable as long as you have patience. Of course, the chaotic control spamming on Twitch would have made any progress in the game mighty impressive, but it’s not quite the way it was when I told you about it before.
Gone is the chaotic, spam-filled chat. In fact, the controls have been remapped, there is now a democracy system in place and Polygon is even reporting that the game now pauses after each command input (although that could actually be a frame rate issue). Still, it is rather impressive to see the group-think project make this kind of progress in the game. Granted, 93% of people who play the game get this trophy, but still – well done to democracy.
You can watch the stream over here and see just how great democracy is, although, much like watching a debate in parliament, it’s actually not as much fun when it’s orderly rather than anarchic.
So, I feel a bit torn about this. On the one hand, it’s still really impressive that a chat log could beat a boss in one of the most difficult video games. On the other hand, it’s not really the chaotic mess that I originally described; they even re-rolled the character. It just seems like saying that “Twitch beat this boss” isn’t exactly truthful, even if it is accurate.
