This is good news for console games and terrible news for PC gamers.
It seems that Epic has decided that PC gaming has no future and they are going to be concentrating mainly on the leading console platforms now. The Unreal Engine 3 still has a lot of life left in it but Epic have come out and stated that the next iteration of the engine will be a console exclusive.
In Tim Sweeney’s own words…
Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft’s successor for the Xbox 360, Sony’s successor for the Playstation 3 – and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs, then that also. PCs will follow after that.
The biggest question in my mind is whether or not Nintendo will ship a machine that could handle it. I am guessing that they will not.
