World of Warcraft may not be everyone’s cup of tea but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t still have a massive following that still grows by the day, much to Activision-Blizzard’s delight.

Making a gajillion dollars a day is obviously not nearly enough though, so the publishers are always looking to get even more gamers hooked on their monthly subscriptions and that’s exactly what they are going to try and do… by making the game free.

The idea is pretty simple. Once upon a time in a land online, you could always download the whole of World of Warcraft for free and then play the living snot out of it for 14 days before the game cut you off and asked for your hard earned dosh.

The problem with that, was that not everyone has enough time in 14 days to form life-altering bonds with other gamers worldwide enough to make them willingly subscribe to their new alternative lives with their new friends and new digital magical powers.

World of Warcraft has now been altered so that the game is completely free to play up until level 20, which will apparently rake anyone in around 10 hours of gameplay before they either have to start over with another character or start forking out for the monthly subscription.

For anyone interested, a new patch has also been released called Rage of the Firelands which adds content and makes some changes, details can be found through the source link below.
