World of Warcraft–The Invasion Experience

Two years ago I was tasked with reviewing World of Warcraft: Warlord’s of Draenor, a game which I’d long avoided due to my inability to live a balanced lifestyle. At the time I was single and lonely and thought “what the heck, it can’t that bad,” and gave it a shot. Spoiler Alert – It was that bad and I subsequently lost 9 months of my life. I’m not complaining, though, I did have a lot of fun and finally got a taste of what people have been addicted to for 10 years.

After leveling up my character, I joined a guild with friends while making a ton of new ones in the process. I quickly learnt how different this type of game was compared to others, and sat theorycrafting, grinding, and playing for almost 13 hours a day. Since the launch of Warlords of Draenor was my first experience, I got to sit and listen as my fellow guild mates discussed the expansions of past and how great they were compared to WoD. I’d never experienced this. The excitement of class changes, choosing your new class, researching the upcoming dungeons and raids, and preparing for the new content which arrives with the new expansion. This time, however, I came prepared and have since re-subscribed to World of Warcraft, and have prepared myself for the upcoming expansion.

Since nobody else at Lazygamer enjoys MMORG’s (or eSports) it would be me, once again, who would review the latest World of Warcraft expansion. I’m not complaining, as I now love the game and fear I will never stop playing throughout every expansion in the future. I began my Legion prep last week as I joined in on the Invasions of Azeroth, beginning the new questline in the Broken Shore. This initial pre-quest to the expansion unlocks the Broken Shore and gives a hint at what’s to come in the unfolding quests as the expansion arrives in just over a week.

Not to spoil anything, but there were some emotional moments.. The quest will leave you with a heavy heart, whether you’re Alliance or Horde. Whether you’re just a fan of Warcraft, or an avid player, one thing is for certain – the Lore will get you. The first thing I did when I entered the World of Warcraft was immerse myself in the story. Knowing and understanding what you are doing, why you are doing it, is a crucial part of an MMORG. World of Warcraft is no exception when it comes to a great story, perhaps it’s the best story?

The Invasions

Feelings aside, I completed the questline and immediately took part in my first invasion. The invasions are an important part of the pre-expansion experience as they give you a taste of the new content which is to come. The most important part of the invasions are the loot caches which prepare you (gear wise) for the upcoming expansion as to not be left behind with mobs taking you down every single second. Lucky for me my character was pretty well geared, so these invasions were more about experiencing the content, as opposed to preparing me for the upcoming expansion.

The invasions take place all over Azeroth in both Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. The premise of the Legion Invasion is to band together (Horde and Alliance) against the invading demons, so don’t tag yourself for PvP. New Invasions spawn every hour all across Azeroth in Azdhara, Dun Morogh, Hillsbrad Foothills, Northern Barrens, Tanaris, and Westfall.

Understanding your class

Each expansion there are a number of changes to every class. Different talents, abilities and spells which make initial understanding and practice important regardless of what your intention is in the upcoming expansion. For me, as a PvE raider, understanding my main class is important with regard to completing the raids in the best way. I main Hunter, with a Rogue alternative character, and this meant sitting around, learning my rotation and practicing in old content and Mythic Dungeons. Many hours were spent on the training dummy, as well as reading up as much as possible.

The biggest change in Legion is your Honor Talents, a complete new set of Talents with the new Honor System. These only become available once you hit level 110, so this wasn’t a concern right now. There’s also the Ancient Weapons which will begin as a quest line once you hit level 110. All of these are worth consideration when looking into your class, or deciding on a new one. Luckily for me, the changes to Hunter were not as big and I feel I’ve adapted fast enough.

The Angler

Since I don’t have the expansion yet (cough), I haven’t been able to try out the new Demon Hunter class, although I’ve seen them everywhere. I have however started fishing in Pandaria trying to gain reputation with the Anglers in order to buy a Water Strider mount which allows you to run on water, a rumoured necessity for the upcoming Raid Instances. This means my days have now been filled with fishing as I level up and gain reputation. It’s an interesting experience as I did not get to play the old content, so the traveling and exploring is great fun.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my return to WoW, and so far I’ve been doing a good job at the whole balancing thing. With just one week to go I’m apparently not ready for the biggest expansion moment of my life – the queue to get in. In the meantime I will prepare the review, but so far I’m excited for what’s to come.

“It was that bad and I subsequently lost 9 months of my life.” And he gave birth to an e-sport addiction.

Do you not get your Artefacts Weapon quests quite soon? And then later as you level you are able to get it for the other specs as well? That is how the previews and beta-testing peoples have it. Or is there a difference between the Ancient Weapons you speak of and the Artefacts I speak of?
I regret missing out on WoD. I am an Ork and that was the perfect expansion for me! Too late now to fully enjoy it for me, but I will not miss out on Legion! Broxigaar wants a rematch with Sargeras!

As far as I know they begin at 110 as part of the quest line? Perhaps from your Class Hall? Not too sure, but I will look into it.

I play in the beta, when you start legion the first quest you do is to get your artifact and then get to the broken isles. After that you are introduced to your class hall and from there you can pick which zone you would like to start at. All content scales to your current lvl.

I’m fishing for the Water Strider at the moment from Nat Pagle (since there’s a lot of water in the raid, and quests). We did the Sea Turtle farm last night but I got nothing :<

Quick Tip for new players who want a decent flying mount at almost no effort.

    Win 3 games of Hearthstone.

Hi, my name is Pastulio, Tokashi, Silkwood, Duiweltjie, Benzin, Witblits, Maloom and I have been WoW free for about a year …

I actually realised that after stop playing WoW that there is a real world outside my house and and … real people I can talk to.

I also realised that I have a HUGE game backlog because while I was playing WoW, I still bought games from steam because “I will play them when I take a break from WoW …” lol yeah right.

I am so glad that I am over this game… 7 years of WoW and I finally can say that I had enough 😉
