Tourney

After a late start last Friday evening due to some technical difficulties, Gavin and I kicked off the finals to determine who would become the first Lazygamer PS4 Call of Duty Champions and needless to say the teams did not disappoint. First up we had the 3rd and 4th place final ExiLe Gaming vs Snow Gaming followed by Insane Gaming vs en F34R for that first place prize. So how did it all go down? Well you can read the write up below or if you prefer to watch the action, jump to the Lazygamer YouTube account where we have uploaded the semi finals and final matches for you to watch..

ExiLe Gaming vs Snow Gaming

The first map choice for the Hardpoint game mode went to Snow Gaming with the pick being the Retreat map. From the start this seemed to be a bad choice for Snow as ExiLe Gaming took a quick 60 point lead by the 3rd Hardpoint. By the time the Hardpoint’s had done a full rotation, ExiLe were in a comfortable lead by 80 points. Snow did try to mount a comeback but the lead was to great and ExiLe Gaming won the map 220-167.

Next up, ExiLe Gaming chose Riot for the Search and Destroy battle which started off as a hot contest of Sniping and great team strategies. The teams were tied up at 2 all by the start of the 5th round when Snow Gaming started to buckle under pressure and made some bad plays allowing ExiLe to grab the next 3 rounds. Snow did manage to win 8th round but ExiLe finished out the Search and Destroy comfortably with a 6-3 win.

Snow on the back foot went with Comeback as the map choice for the Uplink game mode. Starting off strong Snow grabbed an early 6-2 lead by the 2nd minute. At the end of the first half Snow looked to be in a better position with an 8-5 lead. But as I have seen with this crazy small sized map and how fast paced it is, always expect the unexpected. Both teams setup very strong defensive strategies with neither scoring till half way through the 2nd round. The first to break through was ExiLe_Munkii who managed to get a 1 point throw in followed up by a quick 2 point dunk tying the game 8 all. With 1 minute remaining on the clock I expected an overtime but instead I was surprised by ExiLe Gaming mounting a huge rally scoring 7 more points with no answer from the Snow Gaming team. ExiLe Gaming won the Uplink 15-8 and took 3rd place with a 3-0 map count.

Insane Gaming vs en F34R

On to the big final everyone had been waiting for, eN F34R is a well known Call of Duty clan in the community with the most successful tournament wins under their name. Insane Gaming is a young clan who have not placed outside of the Top 3 positions in tournaments and have competed against F34R numerous times in finals. This would prove to be the tightest of matches.

First up, F34R chose Retreat for the Hardpoint game mode. By the 2nd Hardpoint, Insane had accumulated a decent 34 point lead over F34R. As the time moved on Insane were able to apply enough pressure and capture time on the Hardpoint’s to keep their lead for the first 5 minutes before F34R closed the point gap. At the end of the first Hardpoint rotations the game was all tied up 92 all. F34R briefly took the lead but Insane managed to close down the gap and establish a 24 point lead again with 3 minutes remaining. As hard as F34R fought they were not able to catch Insane who went on to win the map 214-176.

Insane had the Search and Destroy map choice and picked Detroit for the battle with both teams favouring the A bomb site. Proving to be a good pick for, Insane they took an early 2 round lead before F34R responded by winning the 3rd round. But once again Insane responded by winning the next 2 rounds with F34R picking up the 6th round. Insane finished out the Search and Destroy with a 6-3 round count as F34R were unable to close down R34P_-LuMm3RzZ going 12 kills to 4 deaths and Insane_Tank_ going 11 kills to 4 deaths.

F34R went with Bio Lab as the map for the Uplink game mode in a do or die moment. Once again both teams did not disappoint with what turned out to be a nail biter to watch. Insane were the first to score after 2 minutes of play with a nice 2 point dunk by Insane_Tank_ and then followed up with a 1 point throw by R34P_-LuMm3RzZ taking a 3 point lead over F34R. F34R managed to get their first 2 points on the board when Barcode11(F34R_FROST) caught Cherry_Frost by surprise holding the satellite ball by the Insane goals. F34R then took the lead from Insane 20 seconds before the end of the first half 4-3 when the F34R captain, F34R_J4K3Z, did an amazing run and 2 point dunk. Straight off the start of the 2nd half, F34R got 4 more points leading the game 8-3 and then the game went to a new level of tension. Insane managed to score 4 quick points in 20 seconds. With 2 minutes remaining on the clock, F34R had to either score or defend. F34R_J4K3Z went on to get another great 2 point run and dunk putting F34R in the lead 10-7. 1 minute remaining and Insane responded with their own 2 point dunk leaving the score 10-9 in F34R’s favour. With 15 seconds left on the clock, Insane took 1 last push at F34R’s goal and defense which almost paid off. Time ran out with Ayrton_dossie_ floating inches away from scoring a 2 point dunk. 1 more second and Insane could have won it but F34R took their first map win.

Bio lab was once again picked as the map of choice for the Capture the Flag game mode by Insane. F34R were the first to break the stale mate at the 3 minute mark of the first round with F34R_J4K3Z scoring the capture. Insane responded with Cherry_Frost scoring the capture in 20 seconds after F34R’s capture and again 30 seconds later by Insane_Tank with Insane taking the lead 2-1. F34R_DREW_ with good team support, captured the Insane flag with 30 seconds remaining closing out the first round 2 all. At the start of the 2nd half F34R_J4K3Z put F34R in the lead with an unchallenged capture within 30 seconds. The remainder of the 2nd round played out with a lot of close calls but neither team were able to capture again until there was 45 seconds left on the clock when Ayrton_dossie_ managed to tie up the game 3-3 putting the game into overtime. F34R were the first to capture a flag in 2 minutes and 31 seconds putting the pressure on Insane to beat the time. Insane then showed some amazing skill and team strategy as they slayed out the F34R with Ayrton_dossie_ capturing the flag in 1 minute and 10 seconds. Insane won the game becoming the first Lazygamer CoD Champions with a 3-1 map count.
