Nvidia showed their hand late last year, and now it’s all about waiting to see if AMD is going to call or fold in the next few months. After the launch of the GTX 960, it would be acceptable to think that Nvidia was done for a short while – which seemed apparent from the lack of any sort of leaks regarding new products. Thing is, they aren’t done just yet.
Several media outlets have received an invitation to an hour-long Nvidia event, where the company claims they’ll reveal “the future of gaming”. That’s a predictably bold, marketing quote – but it does piqué my interest. This doesn’t seem like a new graphics card, but a whole new product entirely. Nvidia has already dabbled with a tablet and the portable Nvidia Shield – so could this be a console?
It would seem like the next logical step for the manufacturer, especially with the rise of the “living room PC console” market. It could also be an entry into the booming VR market, which seem like the safest bet right now. Although, I struggle to understand why Nvidia would chose to compete with some of the best VR solutions out there, rather than support them.
And if I’m completely wrong and this is all about graphics cards, then we could see the very early introduction of the Maxwell Ti cards. With only a few months on the GTX 980 and 970, this would be somewhat suicidal of Nvidia – but they do know the inner workings of the market far better than I do. But considering the invitation says it’s a five year project and counting, I doubt it.
The event is taking place on March 3rd, so until then we can all just speculate together. What do you think Nvidia has up their sleeve? An ace in the hole?

Like what does that even mean these days…The future of gaming….I still game the same way for the most part that I’ve gamed since I was 4. All these VR and AR tech demos keep saying they’re going to redefine gaming. I don’t want to come home from work and play AR minecraft nor will I spend 8 hours playing on an OR. Whether I’m gonna be gaming on a PC/Console….it’s still just gaming. The last piece of tech that really changed the way I game was the Wii, everything else is still the same, just shinier and more social.

maybe they reinventing the Nintendo game glove!
Nvidia “No longer will you need a mouse and keyboard! The Game Glove will replace the need for any and all peripherals!”
Nvidia shows a demo and all that everyone sees is a dude flaying his arms about…

The header image looks like it could be a fold-open gaming tablet device. At first I thought laptop, but that’s not quite what it looks like.
My guess though is mobile, that IS where their focus has been the last few years. So, probably either a graphics chip for mobile, or a full-on mobile device.

You have a good point, but wasn’t nVidia Shield suppose to be that mobile device? or are we talking smartphone mobile, and if it is a console wont it die like the steam console, don’t know how they will compete against Xbox and Sony.

I’m thinking more like an iPad made specifically for games. Or a chip that’ll turn an iPad or other mobile device into a full-on gaming device.

I really hope its not, i’m sick of all these tablets, i don’t mind indie games on tablets, but i don’t see how hardcore gaming is gonna work on a tablet with touch screen.

I have to agree with you here. I’ve tried various types of games on my iPad, and RPG’s don’t work, Terraria is a ball-ache, and in general the controls are just horrible.
SOME games work, but those games already work with the current tech, there’s no need for super graphic grunt in them.

I vote it’ll be a new APU for mobile that can achieve console type performance.

Please no more tegra on Phone, my word that HTC one X was like a AMD R290
That thing would get hot just by looking at it

Well I wanted to get my new GPU right after getting paid but I guess I’ll wait a few days before I start kicking myself
Might not be related to GPU’s but assurance is key here
