ARK: Survival Evolved has been around (in Steam Early Access) for a year now, and its developers, Studio Wildcard, are looking to celebrate. They’ve dropped patch 242, and it comes with, yes, cake, but that’s not all (via VG247).
Exciting news Survivors! The Dragon makes its debut in ARK: Survival Evolved on it’s Birthday Week as players can now face off the mighty beast and it’s fearsome flyer minions in their epic treacherous volcanic lair! Patch 242 also introduces additional tribe member settings, a training dummy, diseases and cures, interactive baby raising, two new creatures, the Dilplodocus, the Leech and so much more!
Along with the dragon, you can see two new creatures in the trailer above. The first is the Dilplodocus Insulaprincep – a friendly sauropod that trusts humans easily. Once tamed, it can be equipped with a saddle that accommodates 10 people. That’s one way to get around!
Leeches meanwhile, are untameable, and an absolute nuisance. They’ll attach to any fool who gets to close, and drain their blood. This translates into hunger, loss of health, and reduced stamina. Oh, and did I mention that they carry the swamp fever disease? Yeah, best you stay away from the suckers! Don’t worry if you get infected though, an antidote can be made.
Hey, let’s not forget about the cake! For the next week, players will be able to stuff their faces with lots of it, and not just for the sake of it being delicious.
Already a year has gone by and we’d like to celebrate that with you by running a special one-week “ARK Birthday Event” where players can find Candles from Supply crates to craft ARK Birthday Cakes! When each candle is blown out, a special message to the players occur and exclusive items are gifted, including: Player and Dino Party Hats, Fun “Birthday Suits” (censor-pixelization of course ;)), and finally, as everyone knows there’s no party without a cake – a giant ARK Anniversary Birthday Cake which can be consumed for a major XP Buff!
Damn, patch 242 sounds like one heck of a wild party. Perhaps it’s time I bit the bullet and got ARK so I can join in on all the fun!

people have been raving about the new map, but really, i prefer the regular map, the centre map loot drops and dino spawns are in weird locations, resources are weirdly spread and the ruins, for all that theyr cool, limit base designs etc
the only thing is that the centre map has difficulty level 5, so wild dinos get up to level 150, which is more tempting than having a properly balanced map

There have been mods for tamable dragons around for a while now, the server Im on has them, theyr pretty usefull
