PS1

I remember getting my first PlayStation, all the way back in the 1995 holidays – I got the thing with Tekken, Wipeout and Ridge Racer, and played all three of them until my eyes bled. This UK-specific video detailing the history of PlayStation since 1995 pretty much captures those magical moments – and beyond – quite spectacularly.

It ends, of course, with the PlayStation 4 and its pretty damned amazing boot sound. I’ve been contemplating axing my PS4 pre-order recently..and now, I’m not sure I can. There are new memories to forge.

So then…tell us. What are your PlayStation memories?

Buddies rock up at my pad after we go out for drinks. Time for a session of Gran Tourismo 2. 100 cars in garage, all tuned to tracks. Audi TT Limited edition is unbeatable in my hands. What do I do? Put disc in to load and in my hammered state hit save game OVER my exisiting game instead of Load game. 100’s hrs of GT gone. Poof. I cried like a baby! Hehe.

True that, but also undeniably true is the fact that most PS gamers are younger “bedroom” gamers. The Xbone fans are usually the decision makers or buyers in the home and thus the Xbone is sitting in the living room, connected to the big ass LCD from where it reigns supreme!!!

The exact opposite is true according to me. Xbox gamers are part of the COD generation. All flash no substance. A bunch of ill mannered children going for what they perceive as cool. 😛

Nooooo, “cool” is for the hipsters and conformists! The majority that pretend to like Indies and PS4 cause they think they’re being “different” and “unique”, but actually they fell so hard for the biggest and arguably most expensive marketing campaign ever seen on console! Hehe!

            October 21, 2013 at 14:15

In all seriousness, you know that is the reason why many people bought the Xbox in the first place? To be different.

            October 21, 2013 at 14:40

Okay, proper answer this time. You’re wrong. I personally had a friend who bought the Xbox (the first one) because it was not available in SA. He wanted to be different and special. People want something new and shiny. Something else. It’s no fun to be the 3rd of your friends that has a PS3.

Also, Apple customers are proof that your allegation is totally incorrect.

Lastly, please Fox – You are the original resident Xbox fanboy, so stop pointing fingers 🙂

          • FoxOneZA

            October 21, 2013 at 14:50

And I’m sure all your friends do the same right? Everyone wants to be different so they bought a Wii.

Xbox fanboi or not, I’m not objectifying any console. The PS1 and PS2 were inferior to PC gaming at there time and they were expensive. A PC seemed a better decision at the time. I eventually got a PS3 to accompany my Xbox 360 and my latest console is the Wii U. Each one was purchased when a good deal came by.

Since Sony has dominated South Africa and Europe since the PSone days, the only “hipsters” would have been xbox 360 adopters or those 3 guys who had the original Xbone.

I always wondered about those 3 guys… were they investment bankers? Did they know that the original xbone was a game’s console? Did they care? Or was it like the old iMac… something pretty to stand in the upmarket loft.

Good advert. They can sense that we are all getting rather jaded. So to reignite that spark they hit the nostalgia nerve.

Also, for once, the advert is real and has none of that crazy shit advertising from the past 20 years. It looks like they finally see gamers as normal people.

I was pretty late to the PSone party. I only got mine in 1997. I think I must have saved up months worth of allowance to buy it.

I remember taking the train to the foreshore, walking to Incredible Corruption (I was a kid, I didn’t know that they were dodgy), and buying it cash. I was so nervous and excited. I must have had this huge smile on my face as I carried the box all the way to the train station. That train ride was the longest ride ever.

When I got home, I plugged it in, and played with the dinosaur head demo for what could have been hours. The next day, my brother surprised me with Final Fantasy 7. Good times!

I think it’s best to wait, the demo on both the xbox 360 and PS3 were pretty lacklustre (I checked out both with the intention of doing a write-up, but then I got distracted by GTA Online). In any case, if you wait for the PS4 version, we’ll only be waiting two weeks.

I think this one I’m keen to first see what the consensus is before buying. But the PS4 version is definitely what I’m keen for.

You can’t be older than Geoff, he’s 56 (which is 21 in Asian years), nor can you be older than Darryn (who must be a ripe 25 or 26)… Zoe is female so it’s impolite to speculate on her age. Gavin is ageless, because he’s actually a cyberborg from the distant future.

Thus.. using my super-advanced intellect and deductive skills – YOUR AGE IS 4.5

            Wait that can’t be right.

    So many PS1 memories….
One of the earliest, before my brother and I could afford one, we used to rent from Videorite every weekend, obviously no memory card with it!
Play Resident Evil all weekend, if we died, just start over and try harder, every time we picked up an ink ribbon imagining the feeling of being able to use it!
Absolutely shitting bricks during the Tyrant fight, “we almost there, dont die!!!”
Of course there were times we died there, and after a little rage and a hour to cool down, restart with 100% enthusiasm to do it this time.
    One of the many memories……

I didn’t even finish FF7 on PS1!! But I did beat FF5 and FF6 on PS1 though because those two were the best RPGS made for PS1!! Not to mention Rockman DASH 2 (aka Megaman Legends 2) was such a classic game!! Too bad we’ll never get to see Rockman DASH 3!! You should play FF6 because it’s fun (because FF13 sucks)!! I used to have it for PS1 but my disc broke FUCK!!

Aahh the memories, playing Crash Bandicoot to death, and torturing my controller as result of playing it. That game defined the term Difficulty.
