Polaroid review – Needed more development

By Kervyn Cloete

in :  Reviews

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and in Polaroid most of those words are screams of terror. Well, at least for the characters in this tries-to-be-high concept horror. For the rest of us watching this sodden fright-by-numbers affair, the words of choice are "Urgh", "Come on" and "Why would you do that? This is so dumb!".

Dragon Quest XI S – Definitive Edition Review: If I Could Turn Back Slime

By Brad Lang

It’s difficult for me to remain objective in this review, let’s get that out of the way right now. Dragon Quest is up there as being one of my favourite franchises of all time, yet it’s kind of difficult for me to explain why. In terms of gameplay and the raw mechanics of the series, they don’t exactly do much …

The Surge 2 Review: Slice, Dice and Ever So Nice

By Brad Lang

I’ve been pondering the nature of sequels, specifically sequels to games that didn’t really leave a mark on anyone but weren’t exactly bad. The Surge, released back in 2017, is one such game, the purgatorial 7/10 that didn’t blow anyone’s skirt up but it was still a pretty decent experience. So my question was when making a sequel to something like The Surge would it pay off to just fix those issues?

There’s no shortage of competition in the camera marketplace right now, but the Fujifilm X-T30 is definitely a contender that can punch above its weight thanks to a compact form factor, plenty of pocket power and stunning autofocus that makes it a Jack of all trades for professionals on a budget.

Blasphemous Review: Bloodied Be Thy Name

By Brad Lang

I always find it interesting how religion is often left untapped by video games. We have an endless stream of games that delve into post-apocalyptic worlds, fantasy settings, the endless chasm of space yet very few have ever drawn explicit inspiration from the world’s religions. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why: Games receive enough backlash from the media as …

Life Is Strange 2: Episode 4 review – Losing faith

Episode 4 has some truly engaging moments, but the issues that have plagued earlier episodes persist. By now, it’s likely that only the diehards – those who forked out for a season pass – will see this through to the end.

Daymare 1998 Review: Resident Evil 2 Remake – Remake

By Brad Lang
September 17, 2019

I’m not sure I like the word “derivative”. It feels like the kind of word thrown around by YouTube essayists to sounds very clever; rather than saying Darksiders is like The Legend of Zelda, saying it’s derivative convinces your audience that maybe that degree in Linguistics actually might make you qualified to talk about game design. It’s so difficult to …

LEGO Jurassic World – Switch Review: The more things change…

By Brad Lang
September 17, 2019

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a thousand times more before it becomes no less of a secret: I appreciate the LEGO games. While they’ve certainly flooded the market with a veritable sea of different interpretations, some being better than others, I can honestly say that LEGO’s take on collect-a-thons have always served me well as “do nothing” …
