The Division PC

The Division is coming relatively soon, and it’s got many people quite excited t dip in to an apocalyptic New York, where you – and a team of other agents – need to do despicable things to survive. Because it’s a Ubisoft game (and they’ve got a long history of decent-to-middling pc ports) there’s an abundance of grumbling; Pc gamers unsure about whether or not the port will be up to scratch.

It’s a concern I understand, given how too many PC ports of late have been sub-standard, with some even being downright broken. That, Ubisoft Massive says, won’t happen with The Division. Why? Because it’s a platform they care very deeply about.

“PC is incredibly important to us,” Creative Director Magnus Jansén told Rock, Paper Shotgun in an interview. “There are plenty of incentives to do a good PC version. Personally it’s important – a I play on PC whenever I can and I want the thing they play at home to be the best possible version. That is not to be underestimated as a driving force. Secondly, both of the studios, Massive and Red Storm started out on PC so it’s a matter of pride, or heritage and pedigree if you will. We feel kind of ashamed if we don’t do the PC version really well. It really is something that we care about.

We’re a very technical studio as well. Sweden is a very technical country – we’re good at infrastructure and design, and a lot of our staff come from the old demoscene as well. There’s a lot of that heritage in the Swedish dev community and that is true here at Massive as well. It comes very natural to us. The engine, Snowdrop, enables the artists to do all of that great UI work and makes it relatively easy to expose all of those options on PC.”

Ubisoft also recently released a list of The Division PC-specific features, to show that they’re quite serious about the PC as a platform.

  • Flexible user interface: move, scale and adjust the opacity of the HUD.
  • Intuitive controls: navigate easily through the interface, inventory panels and map designed specifically to be used with a mouse or a controller.
  • Full mouse & keyboard support: opt for the high precision mouse and keyboard experience and switch to a controller in the middle of any encounter without interruption.
  • Text chat: team up with more agents of The Division by using the in-game text chat.
  • Optimized graphic settings & customised GPU effects: adjust a vast variety of technology treats, from realistic lighting, shading, snow particles, local reflection, fog volumetric scattering, depth of field and much more…
  • Multi-GPU support: unleash the graphic power of the best computer set ups for jaw-dropping graphics powered by Massive Entertainment’s game engine Snowdrop.
  • Multi-screen support: play with up to three screens for the most immersive and stunning experience of The Division.
  • Multi-resolutions: opt for 1080p or 4k and automatically adapt the resolution to fit multi-screen configurations with FOV correction.
  • Unlocked framerate: let the most powerful computer reach the highest framerate.
  • HBA0+: enjoy the most realistic shadowing, lighting algorithm and ambient occlusion.

If that’s got your interest piqued, here’s the PC specifications:

Granted I don’t play Ubi games on release because that’s a suckers bet half the time, I’ve rarely had problems with their ports when I do get around to playing them. And they always let you redefine your controls. I don’t give a crap about 1,001 graphics options – redefining controls is the important one for me.

Btw, the redesign looks pretty cool.

Yeah, I shudder to think how poorly controls were implemented in GR: FS. If at some point you’d *ever* had a controller plugged into your PC with that game, then that was what the game demanded you to use.

“Don’t own it any more? Too fucking bad, I ain’t working till you plug the controller in!”

By the sound of it this time around, they’ve gone the same route that GTAV has, & you can change controllers on the fly. That worked *really* well in that game – I’d use the controller for driving & general running around, & could seamlessly & immediately swap to the mouse & KB for the shooty bits when I needed to.

And all I’m going to say about that on PC is that I’m glad I only spent R50 to buy it, because I ended up deleting it after about 15min of play it was so damn awful

yeah they did. the original footage was said to be from an xbox one, but it was obvious that it was played on a high end pc, and some of the graphic effects are pre rendered. an xbox one could barely play the division after all the downgrades smoothly

So then the question… Why market a console game on PC hardware when the thought of a PC release weren’t even initially there… False marketing?

well of course i could’ve been wrong and the entire gameplay footage will all just prerendered, since the areas in that footage wont be even in the final game.

but the reason why everyone hate ubisoft nowadays is not because of how the final game turns out to be like, but its how they overhype and promise thing for a game that will not appear in the final cut.

When people say that Ubisoft is this or that but forget to talk about WB, I remember moments like this. Look at WB and PC. Then look at Ubisoft and PC.

Ubisoft’s come a ways. They’ve still got some distance to go, but they’re certainly not as bad as WB.
