Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s lag has dramatically improved

I am a fan of the Call of Duty series.  The fast paced nature of the game and the quick matches make for a perfect 30 minute time out while waiting for the wife and kids to get ready. Okay fine, 90 minutes but you still get the idea.

When Advanced Warfare was first released I attended a LAN event where we got to spend many hours shooting each other in the face and I absolutely loved the new mechanics and gameplay and couldn’t wait to spend hours of my life staring at those double jumping pixels.

However over the last 2 weeks the lag when playing online has been absolutely ridiculous, I’ve spent more time watching people warp through space and time and walk through walls than actually playing the game. It even got so bad that I posted that it’s possibly time for us to all go and get a refund. And it seems that I wasn’t alone as that article racked up tens of thousands of hits from people searching for solutions to the insane lag issues.

Well if this weekend is anything to go by then it appears that Sledgehammer Games have sorted out the issue as I managed to play a whole lot of Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed and Free For All with very little lag. Now it’s still the Internet and I’m still based in South Africa so a few games didn’t work out as well as they should but that it par for the course really. Easily about 90% of the games I played had perfect latency which resulted in me slowly starting to repair my K/D ratio.

Unfortunately they still don’t appear to have resolved the geolocation matchmaking which would really improve everyone’s experience but at least now I can look forward to jumping online and boosting around corners to my heart’s content.Have you noticed an improvement to the lag in game since the latest patch or are you still merely a spectator during games? Oh my experience is based on the Xbox One version, apparently the PS4 version has been solid for a bit longer already.

its pretty demanding on the PC, ping lag hasnt been an issue since the first week, but physical lag at the start of maps can still get pretty annoying, especially on certain maps.

I still tend to lose one-on-one encounters. I start shooting the guy just to get owned. Then as I watch the replay I see him shooting me before I even see him.

Make sure you didnt uncheck the two graphics options that pre-cache…One was shaders cant remember the other one. Once i enabled those again my lag at the beginning of rounds went away mostly.

mine are checked, but i have to play for extended amounts of time for it to count, the caching happens once youve played a map, making the next time you load in, during the same session, a smoother experience.
but that takes 2 or 3 maps to become effective.

its the more outdoorsy ones that give me the most grief on the first time load.
but once its done, its done.
the main problem is lobby stability, no sooner has the cache become effective, than im dropped from the lobby for no reason and have to start all over again.

Guys happy to report that the “get the refund” antics worked. The online multiplayer on PC seems to be running okay now still have a few spikes here and there but its not unbearable. I can actually hear the Afrikaans dude swearing me now as well XD.

The could up the game modes though I seem to only get free for all and team death match online. anyone else finding this as well.

Same here with the game modes. I haven’t been able to play anything else, which sucks because I love Kill Confirmed. I still say there needs to be a game mode that basically throws your lobby in a random mode. Like chaos mosh pit that BO2 had.

The reason why there is less lag is because less people are playing the game now. Most people buy COD to see what the hype is about. To see if anything has changed. Then realize that nothing has changed and not bothered to deal with the lag. And more onto the next game.

Ass Patch, Far Patch and Dragon DRM has been released. So much less people are playing COD. Only the hardcore COD players who only play COD everyday of every month of every year, would care about their K/D and lag. The rest just says fuck it, COD is ruining the gaming industry.

The lag has been improved nicely, but, as mentioned, I do find the geolocation matching is falling short for some games.

I also can’t find any ranked games…. but that’s probably the geolocation messing with us,

I’ve also finally found a loadout that is awesome for me, I now wish they would allow us to drop the grey items from my armory… WTB SPACE!

Oh I also tried out the companion app, which I thought was just shit, I wanted to adjust loadouts and maintain my armory and that is exactly what is missing. It is basically focused on clans only….

its better BUT… still noticeable. Ive played about 70 hours now.
90% of the time if the other team are all positive you have a lag issue.
I still watch killcam after killcam where I have unloaded 7 – 10 rounds at a person and their cam shows maybe 1 shot fired.
They adjusted the ping indicator so you rarely get a red ping player showing – but that’s just cosmetic.
Overall as someone who used to play CoD when dedicated servers existed this game should never ever be used for esport purposes – a high k/d or great score in this game proves nothing except you got lucky with your connection.

I have a question for anyone who has played this game on both consoles, because I have this game on both consoles and I need to know if this is a universal thing or is it just me. I play this game mostly on the Xbox, because I know more people there and they get the DLC sooner, but I think I’m going to play more on PS4. When I play on Xbox One, it seems like I’m seeing things happen late, like if I see someone somewhere and I shoot them, the bullets won’t register for about a second. This is especially evident if I’m using a remote turret or tram turret, I’ll clearly have my sights on them, but the first few shots won’t register. The other day I found someone not playing, I went up real close to him, aimed down my sights, put the red dot right on his head, pulled the trigger, and nothing! I had to take a second shot to get the kill. PS4 seems so much more smoother and the reaction time seems to be on point. I know it’s not “input lag” and it can’t be my internet, same tv, same router, both connected via ethernet.

I only have the Xbox one version. For me it’s the same way. I seen where I’m 2 seconds behind. I have good internet connection. It’s been like this on all of the cod games for me. The only reason why I bought this game is because I thought it was going to have dedicated servers. I know it’s the game. I have titanfall. Never a problem. I’m a beast. Very seldom do I have wtf moments. Titanfall plays very smooth and every bullet of mine counts. I use the same Internet connection with both games. Ghost played the same way as AW plays. Once again, activision got me, “saying it’s going to use dedi.” Ghost and AW, I get kicked out of games because of host migration.

I spoke with activision. They told me I needed to open some ports via port forwarding. It seems to have helped, but not entirely. Look up port forwarding for Xbox one. It also upped my net speed on the console. My net speed is 100+ mbps dl and 40+ mbps ul on my computer, but was about 50-65 and 15-25 on the xbox. Now it’s about 85-92/30 on xbox.
