Dying Light cancelled on old-gen

Dying-Light

We’re in a transitional phase right now when it comes to old consoles. What’s new is current-gen and what was current-gen is now rickety and about attractive as getting a gummy kiss from your great grandmother in that dodgy old age home. We’re seeing fewer and fewer games announced for older consoles, with 2015 most likely the death knell for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems. And don’t expect Dying Light to rise from the dead on those platforms either, as those versions have been canned.

In a Facebook statement, developer Techland explained that the older consoles just weren’t up to scratch and “put simply, older consoles just couldn’t run the game and stay true to the core vision of Dying Light at the same time”.

We spent the last three years making sure that all the features of our game add up to create a truly next-gen experience. Much of this ‘next-gen feel’ is tightly connected to the technological side of Dying Light. For instance, up to 200,000 objects can be displayed in the game at once. Add to this our use of realistic, physics-based lighting technology and you really start to push the next-gen systems to the limits.

Combining all of these into one fluid experience is only possible on technologically advanced platforms,” it added. “Therefore, after thorough internal testing, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to leave past-gen systems behind and release Dying Light exclusively on the next-gen consoles and PC.

That’s also a very late in the game announcement, as Dying Light is currently scheduled for release from January 27 in America, January 28 for the Australia and New Zealand region and January 30 for the rest of us. Which most likely means that a nearly complete, but fundamentally flawed version of the game has most likely been nixed then in favour of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions.

It’s a risky decision, but then again, seeing a gimped version run on older hardware next to its newer current-gen equivalents could have been even more damaging. Isn’t that right, WWE2K15?

And now Rince will be good to it, by kicking it out the front door. Or dropping it on OLX

HAHA. Neva! I’m still playing it now. Need Witcher 3 to come out then it’ll be drop kicked into the sun (not really, too many awesome games on it).

I don’t recall the PS2 being phased out as quick? Man PS3 owners are not gonna be happy. This means a forced upgrade.

Luckily I can rest knowing that my PS3 will still be able to provide me with its main function in my house… playing BluRay movies.

        It’s a bit sad if a PS3 only is used for Blu-Ray though 🙁

I got it for free and I game on my pc, with the exception of GT. I would like to have used it more but when I can buy two new games for my pc for the price of one (not even new) game for the PS I always chose pc.
Diablo III is still on my list to get though…when I can get over how much it costs.

Its understandable that they would make the jump sooner than later… but was the game marketed to be available on PS3 & X360 originally? If yes, then its a bit of an asshole move from Techland. Gamers hate empty promises.
