The next Mass Effect game is playable

MassEffect

The Mass Effect franchise was so well received we haven’t even reached it on our top 100 game countdown yet, you can check out our countdown here. But it looks like the next set of games will be ready for gamers starting in 2014 as the General Manager of BioWare Edmonton tweeted this out earlier.

Obviously that doesn’t give us much but it does confirm that the next game from them will be a new Mass Effect game that is rumoured to be less like a shooter and more like a fully fledged RPG again.

The most exciting part here though is that he has confirmed that the game is already playable which means we can now all hate him and start getting excited for a relatively imminent release.

Personally I’m hoping the new franchise will be a next generation exclusive as the new power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One could open up an entirely new play style for one of the best franchises in the industry.

BioWare have already confirmed that the next game won’t be carrying on with Shepherd but I do wonder if the game will pick up from your previous achievements or trophies to change the experience in some way?

Okay I have a confession to make, I’ve never played through the franchise myself. I just haven’t had the time to dedicate to the immense storyline and every month brings a brand new game into my backlog and right now I just can’t ever see myself getting to it.

Should I be shot for this? Is the franchise really that good?

Loved them. But then I did have the luxury of buying a XBOX 360 in 2007.
2007… the best year in gaming. Mass Effect blew me away for a 6.

I know hey, 2007 was the year of the xbox 360. I won’t deny that… Mass Effect, Gears of War… Just so many awesome games…. and then they changed focus… with Kinect 🙁

I still need to experience the DLC, but damn man… I just don’t have the energy at his stage. ME3 was the weak link, and it almost killed it for me.

What I do Jim is I play up until the Ceberus base mission before the final push then I start up the Citadel DLC then vuala perfect ending! I’ m on my 5th playthrough now.

The Extended Endings DLC makes it all better Jim, really. It explains the island crash and why your team mambers are on board. The cutscenes at the end are longer and give you a sense of what actually happened afte rthe final scene and that your decisions ACTUALLY had an impact. Also, Space Ghost has more dialogue and his actions actually make sense. The plot there is actually more than fixed 🙂 There is a 4th ending now as well.
Listen, the ending is still not perfect, but it does send the trilogy of properly. All the things that really got to me with the original one were fixed. I actually enjoyed it. Want to start the triolgy over after my replays of Diablo 3. I can now love the WHOLE jornet of Mass Effect again.
I know it still hurts that the original ending was bad. Dude, nobody gets more than I do. But ME3 was still an amazing game. The MP, the other 95% of the storyline, the great DLC. So good.
Give it a try Banana Jimmy.

Considering like me,your profile pic has not yet changed I do believe you are right. I was still a bit peeved even after the extended cut dlc but what brought me back to their side 100% was the Citadel DLC. It was made with the fans in mind and is what I expect from Bioware. As long as they don’t screw up DA I will stay in their corner till ME:Untitled gets released.

Now all I want for XMAS is my very own MAKO (yes I actually liked it)

The emotional content in 3 though? Oh man, some of it was cheesy and a touch cliched, but it was oh sooooooo good. The third one had me laughing and damn near crying a few times in a way that 1 & 2 didn’t come close to.

I had Tali as my LI on my “main” playthrough, and damn but I got “attached” to her. That little scene the extended cut added, during that final charge on Harbinger, where you carry your LI to the Normandy for CASEVAC, and you say goodbye *knowing* you’re not going to see them again?

I chose Miranda for some unknown reason. Well, there actually were 2 good reasons. If you know what I mean…..

            December 19, 2013 at 12:20

Heh yup, my renegade Sheppard was all over her like a bad rash, also for a few good reasons :p

I think the only female romance I didn’t pursue on any of my play throughs was Jack – she just *grated* on me in the second game, like they were trying too hard with her. I liked her a *lot* more in 3 though.

          • SaintsRowNigri

            December 19, 2013 at 12:26

On my third play through of ME2, Miranda for some reason just annoyed the crap out of me, hence I pursued Jack as romance interest. Turns out, she was the most interesting of the female characters on board.

          • BacchusZA

            December 19, 2013 at 12:34

Yeah, Miranda was never all that appealing to me really, beyond looking quite tasty. Her personality didn’t really do it for me, though she’s another one I like more in 3 than I did in 2.

I’ll have to give Jack a whirl if I play through as a male Shep again, though I’ve got a FemShep play-through to finish first.

But, seriously, Mass Effect is just one of those series that every gamer should experience, at least once. The gameplay, the storyline, the sheer emotions it brings out in you is just amazing! Honestly the best franchise I’ve ever had the privilege of playing.

As for the new one – oh I do hope it arrives in 2014… Especially on next-gen. But I think it may be a little later than that – Bioware do, after all, have Dragon Age III lined up for a 2014 release. Would they release 2 of their biggest franchises within the same year? One can hope – but only if they are READY for release… Bioware – don’t let EA bully you into releasing anything till you’re good and ready! We want the quality we know you’re capable of. 🙂

Play it, you’re doing yourself a grave disservice otherwise. It will take you aaaages, as you can – and should – easily spend 40+ hours on each game, but it really is *that* good.

And as hard as it’ll be, ignore the hate about the end of the third one, play through it and make up your own mind. Just make sure to install the Extended Cut & Citadel DLCs, they definitely round things out & provide context that the ended lacked.
