I love to rage about exclusives, mainly when I don’t have the platform said exclusive is coming to. However, the line between Xbox One and PC continues to be blurred, and that’s a good thing for everyone involved. Now it seems that we might see the end of Xbox One exclusives as they’re replaced by ecosystem exclusives.
I’ve always wondered why there wasn’t more cooperation between Xbox One and PC – cross play, shared exclusives and other offerings just make sense considering that Microsoft owns it all. It seems I’m not the only one who thought this way – Xbox Boss and generally cool guy Phil Spencer has come out with new comments that could make PC gamers rather pleased.
Speaking to PC Gamer, Spencer explained why certain Xbox One exclusives aren’t yet releasing on PC:
In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know, just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming head of Xbox.
Going to those teams mid-cycle and saying: ‘Hey, by the way, I want to add a platform,’ didn’t really feel like necessarily the best way to end up with the best result for the game. They had a path that they were on. It’s not to say those games could never come to Windows, but right now we’re on the path to finish the great games that they’ve started, and I want that to be the case. These games are on a path, whereas with, like, Halo Wars 2 I had the opportunity from the beginning, when we’re sitting down with the studio, to say, ‘Here’s the target. Here’s what we wanna go do.’
Even with Gears, like the Gears 1 remake, we thought about framerate, we thought about multiplayer. The opportunity to bring it to Windows in a refreshed way felt like a great opportunity from the beginning. I’m trying to be more deliberate in the choices that we make.
Sure, not all games will work on every platform, but it’s really great to see this kind of forward thinking from the guy in charge of Xbox. While I generally prefer to sit on my couch and play games, with all kinds of new solutions with Windows 10 and Xbox One, just about anything is possible now. I like the idea of ecosystem exclusives – it feels so much inclusive for gamers of all kinds.

Well, I’m still going to play Ryse one day. Although I bet if the bone was selling gangbusters like the pony those exclusives would have a much harder time coming to PC.

No, actually exactly this. This is another reason to buy a PS4 and continue playing the non Sony exclusives on PC.

It remains to be seen if these games along with Halo and Forza will come to be PC.

Yeah true. If Forza comes to PC, I’d be super chuffed.

There’s been countless times where we’ve asked and created petitions and what not
And pretty much this dude has been like no it’s not that requested or it wouldn’t work or some blah blah excuse over and over

If MS keeps this up the xbox one will end up becoming a stream utility for a PC.
If I can cross play with some friendly PC folk it’s not a total loss, and one day if i can afford a real PC all the better, just stream it to my xbox then.
Now if I actually paid for my X1 I might be a little upset, but I think it’s a good move.

Sooo in other words Phil your trying to get as many people who weren’t getting it and would rather wait for a PC version to try buy the Xbox version in order to justify some form of Ha See! to the board of Director’s?
Installed windows 10 last night on a 50GB partition for now to see how it goes but honestly only things why I need it is for that XBONE wireless receiver and DX12
I don’t get the streaming thing since why would one take a crappy low end device and stream it to a high end device?
Pretty much their excuse like Sony did for not bringing games to the Vita

If you have a PS4 and a PC you will play at least 80% of all the exclusives…. That sounds good enough to me!!
