Director Allen Hughes is probably best known as one half of the Hughes Brothers, the directing duo who famously brought us Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell and Book of Eli. But now it’s time for him break away from his brother and blaze his own trail. A trail that leads straight to Dirk Diggler battling General Maximus Decimus Meridius, all for that Welsh girl from The Darling Buds of May.
In a broken city rife with injustice, ex-cop Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) seeks redemption–and revenge–after being double-crossed and then framed by its most powerful figure, the mayor (Russell Crowe). Billy’s relentless pursuit of justice, matched only by his streetwise toughness, makes him an unstoppable force–and the mayor’s worst nightmare.
Both Wahlberg and Crowe can generally pull off this type of street-level crime thriller in their sleep, so the question now just remains to be seen how Hughes does behind the camera on his own. The film is already looking pretty solid, with a great support cast, but we all know how well a bad movie can be sold in a trailer. Isn’t that right Mr Wahlberg and Max Payne?

Is it just me or has Wahlberg not had a good movie in a good, long time?

Well,Ted was pretty decent. And while Contraband was instantly forgettable, he did The Fighter before that.

Actually, very good point. I think I need to see him in something where he isn’t acting the forlorn ‘fuck my life’ character. I fear he’s more type casted than Niro!
